Yes, pretty much every picture has been with AEF. If it does not pick up the eye it defaults to the head, so a win win in my book.

John I do it all the time to prefocus say on a perch and there is no bird at all, it just puts a large AF square or multiple depending very quickly. Usually it will pick the nearest target. I do not see any more speed using non animal vs animal AF. The only thing is if it is a real busy area, lots of branches, weeds etc then better to use single point then go to Animal AF. flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/robamyphotos/
