A far from perfect video of a rescue helicopter shot at a airshow. Filmed with R5 using RF 24-105/4. Audio recorded using a Tascam Portacapture X8 at 192kHz 32bit Float, synched with the video in Davinci Resolve. I know it's shakey and the horizon line is not perfect but winds were strong and the rotorwash didn't make it any easier to keep things stable. :)

Very nice. I've had Tascam Portacapture X8 to go with my R5 since it was first available, but I haven't had a good opportunity to test it extensively, so it's good to see this video. I bet the 32bit float came very handy for the shot. Did you use a windscreen for this and if so, which one? I'm still looking for one.

Thanks! nice to see a fellow X8 user here :) using 32bit float is a lifesaver when you shoot something which can have unexpected peaks or drops in audio level like this. It's a 'set & forget' solution which i like, it just makes things so much easier especially when you're a one man team who has to do everything yourself.

I used a windscreen which helped but not quite enough as you can hear, there are some places in the video where the wind hits the microphone elements and causes issues. I'm using the Zoom WSU-1 deadcat as it has longer hairs than the original deadcat from Tascam. But i might look into building a smaller blimp where i can place the built-in microphones inside using extension cables from the recorder, it should eliminiate problems i'm having now with wind noise.

Besides that, i'm loving the X8 recorder. It's wonderful and so easy to work with, much better than the Zoom H5 i had before.

It amazes me with such a wide wing span, how they can maneuver through the dense canopies. SS 320

The RF 50mm f1.8, the cheap nifty fifty, continues to astound me. Didn't think I would manage a "macro" insect shot with it, but I did, and it's so light and easy to carry on a long walk.
