Question for ya:

How does your R5 ISO stackup against the 90d? I ask as you're limited to F8 (which is fine for probably the majority of the day).

From my experience with both 70d and 80d, anything > ISO400 = things really drop off a cliff, not end of the world, but it's noticeable.

I know this is apples/oranges, but I'm curious if you can comment on what ISO's your able to get away with having come from the 90d, and also just keeper rate?

hi markesc..its a totally different experience in my opinion..can actually shoot unto 12800 and get usable pics.. but ask the tech guy like robamy on the forum.. and as for keeper rate, again if in my clumsy hands..and I am talking BIF.. 80%+ and I am still learning.. against 20-30% 90D ..gosh it was such hard work.. of course perched birds. 90D single autofocus +crop =good times. BTW sold 90D and 7DMKii after using R5 for a day !

You have loads of talent. Love the sharpness and color contrast coming from your Sigma 50mm f/2.4 and Canon R5. Still waiting for my R5.

The R5 files are much better with anything over 800 ISO in my opinion. I liked the 90d but really never cared for the files over 800 ISO. I am not saying you can't use the 90D at higher ISO but you will like the R5 better when you do. The AF is just in another league compared. However we are at major price differences. I still feel for the money the 90d offers a good value. I actually sold my 90D for the EOS R and liked the performance better with the R also but it lacked speed.

Appreciate!!! I am hoping the R5 can live two lives - both landscapes and BIF.

Eventually the 80d shutter will self destruct...then decisions will have to be made!

So I'm feeling pretty stupid. I have been using this camera for 2 months. It sometimes picks up on my dogs, but not very often. Today, I thought, let's see if it works any different if I change the AF mode to animals. WOW! This awesome camera just got 100 times better! This is from using the people mode still. I'm excited to get a round with the animal AF.

Thanks. The R5 has a mechanical shutter Yes it was ES for the full silent feature.

One from today testing new r5 out with my 400 f2.8MkII IS . Terrible sunny day and accidentally had WB set to overcast but all in all a good day to test the actual features. The animal eye af is a game changer as is low light performance compared to my 5DSR . And keeper rate was like 4 times better than my 5DSR.!

I did have an issue though with a 30 sec freeze of the AF which a couple of people have also reported has happened to their 400mm f2.8 MKII's and 5R combo . Not sure what was causing it but a minor hiccup that i can live with until its hopefully fixed in a future firmware release . Be interested if anyone knows whats causing this ?

My R5 is on order. I'm keeping my 90D!

Nice shots, Julian! Is the Jupiter shot a single frame, or did you merge multiple frames? Also, I'm wondering why you shot at f/11 instead of wide open.
