It's certainly a poppy of some kind. The bulbous green structure in the center is an immature seed pod. When it grows and dries, it'll be full of poppy seeds and will rattle if shaken.

Yes, I was on my knees with the camera on the ground and I was using the flip screen. Doubt I could have got the shot otherwise.
