This pelican lives at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. He has had a wing injured (I don't know if it is or can be healed) so he did not migrate with the other pelicans. Instead, he patiently swims around the lake and waits for the others to return. He has become so well known to those who frequent the lake that he has been named. His name is "Solo" - although I have also heard him referred to as "Fred". He seems very content to swim around the lake (he's a very good fisherman) and enjoy the bounty there.

Interesting how they survive in such circumstances. Hopefully can continue.
Love the lower photo, both are beautiful, but that's rather special.

Lovely shots, Richard! Second shot looks like a painting.

Not sure how cold it gets in winter in OK, but I hope he makes it through.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Thanks, glad you like them. Not too cold most of the time (except for the occasional snow or ice storm) and he'll be surrounded by other pelicans. Lots of them winter here.
