Edit: Faststone image viewer does it, for free! Thanks for the help!

Any suggestions for tools/apps to transfer raw files from memory card to PC? Including creating date folders and sorting? I'm moving away from lightroom, currently to Aftershot pro 3 which does not do this (at least not that I've found). I used to have LR copy from the card to a Pictures>year>date folder structure. (as in: Click on 'import card', click OK, it does it all with no input). I'm now faced with having to copy, paste the photos, and manually create and sort date folders; ew no way! Sometimes I have 6 different dates, and it's all one folder on my card.

Some options I've found;
Bridge - free. But I'm trying to avoid Adobe, they're jerks.
Adobe DNG converter - Free, same issue. Used this before, think it did what I want? My files end up as DNG..?
FastRawViewer - $20. Not tried yet, but $20.. Expensive for just this
digiKam - can't get it to do what I want.

edit; dng converter doesn't sort into date folders! :(

DNG Converter is just for converting your files to DNG. Don't use it unless you absolutely have to. It's definitely not an organisational tool.

Faststone image viewer is free and I'm pretty sure allows you to import into folders by date.

Thanks! I actually had it installed but forgot about it. I'll have to try later, but looks like it'll do the job!

Many current versions of O/S (Windows 10, iOS) have native support for RAW files, that permit the O/S to see any RAW files in the usual file handling capability embedded within the O/S; things like Word documents, spreadsheet documents, MPG and JPG and MOV files are all recognized and listed by the O/S without additional 'recognition' software added to the O/S.
When the above is true, you can simply use Copy and Paste to get files off memory cards (like SDRAM) and put them into folders created and named by you and sitting on the harddrive/SSD storage of your computer.

The complication that might arise is if your O/S recogizes an older RAW file but does not recognize the newest camera model's RAW file...for example (not stating that this example is true!) your O/S sees Canon 5DIV RAW files, but it cannot see RAW files from Canon R7 (which does not yet exist!) after it is launched in Juvember 2021 because your Feb 2020 O/S version does not support the newer RAW file.

Not at all how it works, that is just bad advice and nonsense.
Windows, Linux and OSX are quite capable of seeing and copying files they have no file associations for (software they know can open the file). You can copy and paste etc, you just won't be able to preview any content in the file, or open it until software compatible with the file is installed.

Let us know what camera you have, we might be able to then tailor a better response.

Thanks, I have a Panasonic GX7. From the suggestion above I started using Faststone image viewer, it works great and does the job! I'll try to update the OP.

Photo Mechanic is all about importing images into the file structure you want, doing any file renaming you want during import, and quickly showing you the image previews so you can cull. You can use Photo Mechanic as the file importer paired with editors such as DXO Photo Lab or other.
