Hi everyone,

I'm strongly considering picking up an X-T3 for both photo and video. The one hangup I have is it's autofocus tracking ability in low light. I shoot a lot of concert photography, typically in dark bars. My current camera, a Canon 6D, does a decent job in tracking focus when using the center point and I'm hoping the X-T3 would give me similar performance or better with the right lenses. These are typically what the images look like:

I understand these are pretty demanding situations for focus tracking for any camera. I briefly owned the X-Pro2 and shot two bands on it in different situations as well as a wedding and it didn't preform as well as my 6D would have. I know the X-T3 has a better focus system, but would it be comparable or better than a DSLR in this situation? I'm not asking for eye or face tracking, but just good tracking of the subject.

I know this is pretty lens dependent so I'm currently looking at the f2 primes as they focus more quickly than the f1.4/f1.2 lenses as well as the Viltrox 85mm (the Fujifilm 90mm is a little out of my price range)

I really want this camera, but I want to make sure it can preform in these situations before dropping this amount of money on a new system. Thanks everyone!

Last gig I shot was with the X-T3 mostly used the 16-55/2.8 and it preformed well. Light was at 1/125 f/2.8 and 3200 or so.

If you believe the recent PetaPixel announcement, the X-T3 AF performance will get a boost in the upcoming firmware update (28 October), to be on par with the X-T4:

https://petapixel.com …n-double-autofocus-speed/ (external link)

According to the (pre)release notes, the peak AF speed has been cut from 0.06 to just 0.02 seconds, matching the X-T4, and the algorithm for predicting subject motion has been updated, bringing the “expected ‘hit rate'” to “90% or more.” Fuji also claims that AF tracking performance has been doubled—including Face and Eye Detection tracking—and that low-light autofocus has been improved to work in “near darkness.”
