Why is this even a question? You use the tripod mount.

I am not sure as I didn’t bring all these other questions about the contour of the grip, I originally said it would use the tripod mount, then some went off on a tangent about the shape and how to use a lip to hold it etc. i figured the “just kidding” in my very first reply wouldn’t have garnered all the followup.

It seems the discussion of the contour of a battery grip came about because someone mentioned that the new Canon mirrorless body lacks a localization detent that fits an anti-twist pin in the battery grip on dSLRs, so the anti-twist lip (like on RRS L-brackets) was brought up.

You would want a contour just for aesthetics/more seamless look if nothing else. I never liked the canon grips, they rarely seem to really become one with the body, they all needed to be a bit more “wrap around” to close up those seams.

Well just ordered the R7/RF-S 18-150mm kit. Hoping to have it in hand late next week or early the following (Cpricewatch deal coming from the great white north…)

This could be great, if I am happy I’ll likely sell off my little used R5 (I tend to favor my R6) as well as my M6 II and a myriad of EF-M lenses.

That will let me splurge on the RF 100-500mm and even have money left over.

From what I've read lately, it seems that someone ordering the kit version now is more likely to get it sooner than those of us who ordered body-only on May25.

There should be a law that prevents bundling during an initial time of greater body demand than supply. I'm sick and tired of buying "kits" because they are the only thing available. I have 3 copies of the original 18-55 EF-S kit lenses because of this marketing "feature", and an original 24-105/4L as well, which I probably would not have ever bought if I could have purchased the 5D2 body-only when I decided I wanted it.

I pre-ordered my body only R7 from a place that usually has stock with new items when some of the other big places had nothing, but I just checked now and there is no information at all about a possible shipping data; just a note that I pre-ordered on May 25.

Those lenses likely have something like a 200% markup, so doing kits at time of preorder just increases the profit margins up front. I had to buy the R6 with its terrible kit lens, and I sold the lens right after to try to recoup some of the expense.

I suppose you mean the 24-105mm f/4-7.1. Considering its low recoup value, it might have been good to keep it around as a fun lightweight walkaround lens.

Well I received my R7 kit today. Initial impression is that it is a HOME RUN! It looks like it will PERFECTLY accomplish what I wanted it to - replace my M6 Mark II and EF-M lenses.

The 18-150mm kit lens seems to be near identical to the EF-M 18-150mm except for the wider mount. It even uses the same lens hood as the EF-M version.

Yes it is a kit lens, but it is a SMALL lens considering the range. Much smaller than the EF-S 18-135mm if I recall correctly.

The R7 is only marginally larger than the M6 Mark II with EVF attached. It is much “chunkier”, but almost same width and actually shorter than the M6 (with EVF attached). It feels great in the hand and balances better than the M6 if using EF-S or EF lenses with the adapter.

Here’s is a side by side of the RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 with the RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3

Many things to say about R7 but bottom line is if you set it up for your custom
shooting it will perform. This is definitely not a pro camera but it has pro AF for sure.

to me the AF is the reason to buy it. If I need a weather sealed camera I will take my 5DIV or 7DII (keeping the 7dII in the car)

it is not perfect, for instance size - height wise. But it takes great pictures and the ISO performance is better than the 90D

You can solve most of the shortcomings for instance the height by adding a grip extension.

I did the same and that in itself changed the whole game- body is just too small by itself.
I worked through where to assign my ISO and the rest works well.
