I've created many horizontal pano's before without issue. Normally it's a distant landscape so I'll focus to infinity, shoot manual, pan left to right ensuring that my histogram looks good and then take my shots and merge them in LR6.

I'm wondering though would the process for how I focus change if I'm doing a pano that's say 2 photos high and 4 photos wide? Would I still focus to infinity or would I have different focus points for the lower 4 images than the upper 4?

Thanks!

I think it really depends on the scene that you are photographing. I shot this one years ago, and it''s processed in an early iteration of the RAW Photostitcher.

It was hand held and about 120 images IIRC. I refocused the image using the central AF Point each time, although given using a 28mm focal length on a 20D at ƒ/5.6 I'm guessing a lot of the image is actually within the hyperfocal distance. I really like the LR merge to panorama, it also seems to be very good at reducing the number of moving subjects that get cut up and displayed. This one has not been through photoshop for and tweeking.
