If I am using an Intervalometer (Shutterboss II) on my Canon EOS R to shoot astro subjects do I need to be in "Bulb Mode"?

Thank You.

The intervalometer controls WHEN the shutter is next opened for another photo...the shutter still opens and closes for each photo!

Photographers would not use an intervalometer with Bulb unless they were photographing sections of the sky to grab the changing star and planet locations as time progressed...like 'open shutter for 3 minutues (and then close), wait 1 hour before doing it again' sequence controlled by the Intervalometer.

A different photographer might set the controller to open shutter (and close) to take a photo in Av mode, and the meter controls the shutter speed to suit the light striking the subject...'open the shutter once every 10 seconds, to take a photo of an opening flower at f/5.6 and Av'

Depends on how long each exposure you want for each shot. Not sure of longest shutter opening on your camera, but my 7dII is 30s so when shooting Astro only need to use bulb if I want a shutter speed above 30 seconds.

The intervalometer will control the time between each successive shot and number of shots taken. I'm not sure about yours but some intervalometers may not be able to determine an accurate time when in Bulb and will just open the shutter and close it without any timing whilst others may be able control the time the shutter is held open for.
