Nice one of the bird, and such a nice perch.

Thanks, Archibald. A dead Aspen tree fell over in my yard during a recent snow storm. Became useful for my winter photography. :-)

Very grey and overcast day. Hard to get to close to them when they are out in the open.

I agree with you Duckster. It is very difficult to take a satisfactory result in such weather, specially with a f/11. However your photo is great.

Thank you. I always find it difficult with these raptors as they like to sit in the open which gives you only big bright sky as a backdrop

A couple of Dark-eyed Juncos. The first is our typical "Oregon" Junco. The second is a "Slate-colored" Junco, typical in the eastern US but uncommon out west, so it's nice to have one hanging around the yard. These were once considered separate species.

That Oregon Junco is such a handsome bird, Ken! Nicely done. Around here the Slate Colored one is also referred to as the "Oh, It's Another" Junco.

Two lovely shots, Ken.
The first Junco is particularly beautiful.

Thanks Levina. A nice reminder to stop and look at the common local birds once in a while.

Just made my own DIY "Better Beamer" to partner with the RF 800. It is made from a gutter downspout that I picked up from a local Lowe's for $2.99. The material is ideal for this as it's very light yet durable vinyl, and it fits the head of my flash perfectly. Add another few bucks for Fresnel lens, and voila, here's my own Better Beamer for less than $7.00.

It would be cool to see comparisons of the real and home-made one, and no flash.
