It's very odd for the North Carolina elk .... the bulls are acting like the rut has started ... the cows are not interested or ready. Yes the velvet is gone. The Tennessee elk (completely different herd) are all still in velvet ... unusual year

Very nice shot Bob, really like the dark antlers and ivory tips on this great bull and catching him walking in the creek is a great touch, I can tell he has a plan ahead of him.
