Croasdail making stuff up More info | Aug 25, 2020 16:53 | #2 I have the 17-40L I used to use for that. I am reasonably uncomfortable recommending that lens.... it is soft on the edges even on a crop body. So if you do look at a copy of that lens, make sure you get to test it first.

Canon 7D Mkll I use 18-135 USM (on 80D) for most things, including panning (see recent photos in panning thread). My local track (Hidden Valley, Darwin) allows spectators to be very close to the action, and fences are only 1 metre high. That lens is quite sharp (for a zoom) and focuses almost instantly. Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Croasdail making stuff up More info | Sep 01, 2020 12:54 | #6 Kinda curious... are you going to be in the pit while shooting? Is this going to be a main stay shooting thing? There is some great glass out there for this, but it can get pricy. There are a lot of lenses either primes or zooms that start at 18mm... that are pretty good. The old ef 18-55 f2.8 was a pretty good lens... just wondering?

Croasdail making stuff up More info | Don't do motorsports anymore... but used to use my 17-40 for in pit photos. That was on a crop body. I also used the 17-55 f28. With a full frame I have a 24 1.8... not super wide...

Mar 07, 2021 17:26 | #10 I mostly used a 24mm pancake for that in the past. I got a 16-35 f4 but I'm not totally happy with it, so I'm personally considering a 24-70 to take over that job (as well as close-ish shots of passing cars, especially in Rallying). Once I switch to FF I won't be able to use the pancake anymore, otherwise it's a great lens in good conditions
