I have been using a 6D for 3-4 years with some success. 6 weeks ago I bought a 6D2. To say I was very underwhelmed would be understating my feelings on the 6D2 Greatly. I found a buyer on CL that thinks its the cat's meow. I found a 5D4 on the same site that was 1600 ish. It does have 50K of shutter actions. I think it was a good deal. What I have been surprised at was how much I really like the quality of the pictures it produces. It's like it reproduces what I see. I am not sure if its the dynamic range or perhaps the higher amount of pixels. Wow, What a difference I see from my 6D to 5D4. I am happy that I had invested in good glass that now matches the body. Now we can all start hoping for a 5D5 :)

Just with the added MP on the 5dmk4, the IQ increased.

Comparing my 5dmk3 vs mk4, I can obtain sharper images with the mk4.

Across the board the IQ improved as if I upgraded all of my Canon EF glass. Looking painfully back in time that camera was approx $5000.00 CDN including taxes. I still do not regret paying that much for the image quality that camera/lens combo produces. I still rely on mirrored bodies for low light / speedlight events photography. Mirrorless still cant match AF acquistion using red focus assist (mirrored system only).

I started with the 5D, had that for a few years then upgraded to the 5DII. I thought a really good upgrade but the 5DII definitely had it's own set of issues. When the 5DIII came out I so wanted to upgrade but was really disappointed with the camera based on my shooting style. WIth the 6D and 6DII it was the same thing. Nicer cameras for sure but really no improvement in my images. The 5DIV on the other hand improved in all the bells and whistles but most importantly, the IQ was a significant improvement over my 5DII. Can't be happier with that camera.

As to the 5DV, I thought Canon just announced that there will be no 5DV. The R5 is basically the 5DV.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Certainly sound like the 5dmk4 will be the last of it's kind. One thing I will miss is the dedicated red focus assist sensor for low light AF assist. Mirrorless camera's simply a POOR Performers in comparison in low light when using speedlite.

Sony has a very different look than Canon 5dmk4. My observation is that camera's are all producing very digital looking files that are crispy, sharp clean. It's just the way it is now.........

The image quality that comes from that sensor is literally the next step up for Canon.
The last time any Canon sensor had such a significant leap in overall image quality, noise handling, DR, color reproduction, was with Canon's first 10 bit per channel sensor on the 1D MkIII. It's been that long since we've seen a sensor that really changes the over all feel of the images.

Have you used an R5 or R6? By all accounts they can find the eye on a black dog in a cave.

I bought an R5 and R6 at the same time. I had an 5D MK 3 and 6D MK 2 along with an R. This summer I let myself be talked into switching to Sony, so I did, a7III and a7RIII SO ALL MY CANON GEAR went away including my Glass. Initially I was pleased with the Sony Gear but something was quite not right. The “Feel” f the camera and attached lenses some how never felt right to me. I hated the menus and in truth didn’t like the Sony color and the way the lenses both G and GM grade lenses. That said they were better then my Canon R, but the old and outdated DSLR to my eye and computer browser were... well better. They had pop, contrast, sharpness and the unmistakeable rendering that Canon Gives Me.
So when I had the opportunity to move the Sonys and the associated Glass I bought the R5 and R6. No question in my mind the R5 and R6 are a leap beyond the Sony’s; noting that most reviewers allege that the R5 is the successor to the 5D MK IV I felt that I’d missed out on the greatness of the 5D MK IV and then the price dropped below the price of my R6 So I called my Dealer and asked if I could exchange my R6 for the 5D MK IV and R adapter, I had 78 clicks on the R6 and he agreed.
When I got the 5D MK IV I was immediately struck at how much better quality it’s built over the R6. Here was canon at its best, conservative manufacturing and long life and indisputable ergonimics. The proof of the quality of the pudding is in its eating and in the case of the 5D MK IV it’s in the images. I don’t give a rats ass about Video I’m a “Photographer” of over 5O years experience and the shoots I got are better then from the R6 and my previous canon DSLR, better then the R but not the R5 it is way better then all of them. Here is my Take, there is nothing to be ashamed about shooting a 5D MK IV, it will produce images up there with all the best of them. Clients will not know you used this camera or that camera as that if you do your part as a photographer the 5D will reward you. That and it’s bulletproof construction will last for as long as you want it to, the R5 is everything that the 5D MK IV is and them some and it’s into the future with its technology. It delivers and if you know what Canon and it’s look and philosophy are about have no regrets that if your pockets can only take you to a 5D MK IV for you will be happy. I know I am as a “Photographer “. With the R5 well the test of time will determine “That you will Remember the Quality long after the Price is Forgotten “.
