I took mine out in the snow a couple of weeks ago with the EF to R attachment for my Sigma 85mm ART with no issues. It was actively snowing for the most part when I was up there with the family. The EF to R mount as well as the Sigma 85mm ART is weather sealed so I had a peace of mind.

Thanks for sharing that. I have been spoiled by the bulletproof-ness of 1D bodies so it feels different.

So the eye/animal AF can not overcome the limitations of the lens?

The object recognition AI can't see the scene like a pinhole camera; it relies on being almost in-focus for a long enough period of time to look through what's almost in focus. If focus races past the objects, the AI may never see them. That could be more of a problem with a non-reporting TC, which speeds up focus drive. I've experimented with the R5 and a reporting TC vs taped, and taped will move the AF motor faster, but there is more of a chance of overshoot (or focus leaving an object for no apparent reason).

It's likely that the taped-over pins do transmit some data to/from the lens and focusing system causing the over-shoot. or focus leaving the object.

I was shooting from the safety (and warmth) of the car. This area of the wildlife refuge is open to passenger vehicle traffic, but visitors are to remain in their vehicle, for good reason.

Rocky Mountain Arsenal I presume? I need to get out there more often.

Yes, Rocky Mountain Arsenal. It's been a bit hit and miss. I actually had better luck in the area north of Denver Int'l Airport.

So I just received R6 in mail on Friday. Attaching the battery grip, I noticed how different the material is from DSLRs such as 5Div or 7Dii. For example the battery door is thinner and lighter.

Has anyone yet exposed their R6 to elements? How does it hold up in snow for example? I have no worries while taking a 7Dii out into harsh weather but should I be more careful with R6?

The R6's battery door may be a little thinner than the one of the 7D and 5DII, but I don't think it will make a difference in cold weather. I usually photograph the local sled dog races in Fairbanks, Alaska using these two cameras, sometimes when the ambient temperature is from -20 to -30 degrees F.. This winter I haven't had the chance to take photos because the COVID-19 distancing rules, so I have lost my chance to take photos of dogs and mushers with the R6 and a Canon RF 100-500mm. Now, if anything I would be concerned with relates to the lens, since I have read some rumors about a batch of these lenses that have developed cracks on one of the glass elements near the rear of the lens.

We came out of our second COVID lockdown this week so this morning I was able to get out first thing for a badly needed haircut. That explains the harsh late morning light on this Muskrat feeding on crawfish along the river's edge. Or maybe it's because I recently started using CRAW for my R6 photos. I don't think I can blame CRAW though as I am very happy with that format and especially saving 50% of space with the raw files.

I headed out yesterday for Short-eared Owls in flight. Found the bird, but shooting conditions were rough: shooting at bird directly backlit by bright, late afternoon sun, light reflected off a snowy field and a very distant subject. Even trusty DeNoise couldn't completely eliminate noise. On the bright side, R6's tracking did fairly well and given the distance the 800 f11 could keep the owl in the focusing area. Best I could do under the conditions, but I came away pleased with the camera's performance.

Hello everyone I have both Canon TC version 2 and there is this feeling of me telling me to upgrade to version 3 lol to pair for my R6. Anyone tried them both? Is it worth to upgrade? Mainly to be pair up with my EF600mm II and R6. Thanks.

When you mention distant, how far away was the subject? How much of a crop did you have to apply, if any?
