So, I could not resist and bought the R6 (with RF24-105 STM & RF35 1.8)
Below is my old setup Vs the new (80D Vs R6)
It is ~200 grams lighter (I like it) but it does not have the top LCD (no big deal) and does not have the 4 top buttons I really like (and miss) – but a bit of new muscle memory and some setup and I am happy
Once I review the images with lightroom I was blown away – what a great sensor (and of course full frame vs crop – also makes a difference)
The RF 35 1.8 is a gem! – Now I am waiting for the EF/RF adapter and would like to try it with my 70-300L and 150-600 Sigma
I wish some one will make EF/RF Adapter/TeleConv in one piece – I think it easily doable and will sell well

Congrats!

I don't miss the LCD as I don't use it or those four buttons next it for that matter. My only muscle memory was the Mode dial placement. Wish it was on the left. I also wonder how many of the R5 users dislike the Mode dial on theirs. Seems like it is an extra extra step to change mode.

Nice pics!

I'm surprised it doesn't bother your cat! Wouldn't be the first Fox to make a meal of a kitty.

I like Jared Polin and I know he can be polarizing but this review is very informative and actually a fun watch. Now I want to go to a Renaissance Fair LOL

"I was using a variable aperture lens so I had to shoot at ISO 5000"? I'm not questioning the need for the ISO 5000, just the reasoning he gave. I think he meant the lens was limited to smaller apertures, so he needed higher ISOs.

I only watched the first few minutes so far but he mentioned that a couple of times and on the second time he did clarify what he meant a little better. Yes, the viewer should correctly assume a variable aperture lens will require a higher ISO or otherwise more light because few if any variable aperture lenses exist with 2.8 or lower numbered openings. He didn't really need to say the word "variable," that's for sure!

Variable zooms that are not fixed like a F/4 constant zoom.....apertures on variables will for go as high as F/6.3-7.1....so a couple more stops

For shooters like me that shoot in auto ISO, variables will jump around on the ISO depending on where you are at with your zoom

And what he is trying to tell you is

Its a mute point. ISO is so clean on the new sensors that its doesnt matter where it lands.

as an example..... if you land at ISO 1200 at F/4 and wind up at say ISO 6400 at F/7.1.....WHO CARES...both are extremely clean files

Guys like me that are primary AV shooters dont care where ISO lands when its within our set up parameters....its going to be a clean usable file
