The lens is definitely nice to have in the bag, Steve. I expect it to be a most helpful complement to the RF 100-500mm next year in the field.

Speaking of first firsts. I had a first this year too, a Northern shoveler. And in fact it was a lifer as I'd never even seen the bird before. Although it's definitely not rare here. I'm just a bad bird spotter, is all. Which is not handy if you like to photograph birds. Anyway, my two favourite shots of him. He was in the water and took off and flew right at me and past me so I had a bit of luck there.

Thanks very much, Steve. And yes, I love it when the birds cooperate. A pity they don’t do it very often! :-P

Mottled Duck, a MEGA rarity in Maryland. Shot with the 800 f11...still surprises me how well that lens performs even in low light.

I probably would have just assumed that it was an American Black Duck.

My son's new golden doodle, Winnie. Super feisty and full of personality.

Nice shot! They are rather common in Fl but unusual up north. Funny how that works.

Cool! We get them here seasonally. It is always fun to see them!

Thanks! The last year or two we've had an inordinate number of southern birds show up here. Maybe the fact that it's 60° in January is part of the reason....

Still trying to retrain my muscle memory for the R6 buttons. My boy Coop makes me laugh everyday!

He does seem to have fun. Great picture.
I am also trying to get the muscle memory updated. Luckily the R6 layout is not that much different from the R and the things that are I seem to remember from the good old 6D. A thing I really enjoy is the little joystick to move the focus point. So much better than using your thumb on the touch screen on the R.

My Westie Eddie loves running around in the garden, even when it is very cold. Especially when we do a bit of obediency training as well. It is a bit cold for me to lie on the frozen ground with my camera, though, but that's the price you gotta pay I guess :-)

What a great shot. I bet that was cold, but well worth it!

Totally worth it - that's a cracking shot of your little boy!

Thank you very much.

It was around -3°C and had been below 0°C for about a week, so the ground was frozen and you could feel the cold it emitted.

Thank you very much. He my faithful sidekick. Except when I am looking for wildlife to photograph. Then he stays home. If I brought him along, it would be a wildlife chase instead :-)
