This is great if you have a 400 F/2.8 BUT...

For me my wildlife photography is basically on safari in Africa. A prime 400 lens *for me* on safari is impractical. So many times you’re just too close for 400 mm. Way too close. So unless your an expert at switching lens a lot and very quickly I think a 400 prime is just not a good solution.

On my last trip I was shooting an 80D with the 100-400 II. Pretty much perfect except as I said many times even 100 mm was too close. So there is no sense for me to wish for a F/2.8 lens. Therefore the low light capabilities is critical. Last trip I needed 5000 or 6400 ISO a fair amount but the 80D didn’t handle that all that well. So if the R6 easily handles that even a 7.1 then I’m golden.

rent a 400 dO version 2...problem solved

Anyone else feel like Canon went on the cheap by not including a USB-C cable with the R6? I mean they include it with the R and R5, why not the R6 as well?

After I will get the R6 I plan to upgrade my 16-35mm f4 to a f2.8 version and I dont know that path to take (the EF will be a 1000 dollars cheaper - not from a store, but from a photographer that sells both)
Has anyone tried the R6 with a Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8 III and Canon RF 15-35mm f2.8 to tell me the moral of the story? (PS: It will be used for weddings.)

I shoot a ton of weddings- Over 600

Why do you think you need a F/2.8 super wide ???

The beauty of the new sensors is that you can be at F/4 and not get a noise penalty

I dont have a 16-35 F/2.8 anymore..... My 24-70 works for me but do admit I miss a superwide when it was needed for creativity. I found that my 17-35 F/2.8, which I used for about 13 yrs ( before it was dropped and could not be repaired ) WAS SET AT F/3.5-4.5 FOR OVER 90% OF THE SHOTS...You need F/3.5 to keep 2 or more in focus....so the majority of the bridal couples that I used the lens on were at F/3.5

The 16-35 F/4 IS has the best IS on the market. People can hand hold this at 1/30 all day long.....with a clean sensor and IS capabilities on a 16-34F4....you now know why so many wedding photographers sell off the F/2.8 super wides......no need to spend 2K when an $800 F/4 does the job better

Thanks Russell, with a bright insect against a dark background, I could see the small "Blue AF" tracking square follow the insect in the frame.:-)

Cheers

I used the "Focus Bracketing" function on the Canon EOS R6 with my RF 100-500mm lens and the Canon 500D Close Up Lens (external link) (77mm) and was blown away by both the capability of the "Focus Bracketing" function and the image quality with the Canon 500D Close Up Lens.

I was zoomed out to only 145mm at F4.5 with the front of the lens some 40-50 cms (16-20 inches) away from the small bear. The EOS R6 calculated that 29 frames would cover the shot and in Electronic Shutter Mode it raced through them. I stacked the shots in Helicon Focus V7 (external link).

#1 is the full frame shot re-sampled down to 1200x1600, the Bear is approx. 6.5 cms (2.5 inches) high.
#2 is a full res 1600x1600 crop.

I forsee the Canon 500D Close Up Lens having a permanent place in my camera bag.:-)

Cheers

Dennis

PS - it is my Wife's bear and that is fake honey on the nose.:-)

given what we'd pay for a R6 here, I'd expect a computer to do the processing, and possibly a 1-time troup of dancing girls to carry all the kit. Perhaps in another universe...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

WooHoo! (Hopefully) joining the club Friday! Best Buy online had the R6 body-only and adapter in stock, and I got a 10% coupon to use on it, so got camera and adapter for less than retail on camera only. :)
