I think the sensor on the R6 is just to small. I am talking to one of the members. 100% crop and you are getting a very small file at 300PPI...less than 2MB...thats OK for net photos and atta boys for the net... BUT...for prints ??

Im going to go R5

I have taken some test shots and resized them to the 5D4 resolution, and they look great.

Assuming 300DPI for printing,

5D4 yields a 22" print on the long side

R6 yields a n 18* print on the long side (22% less)

I don't get the comment that a 100% crop yields a small file. I don't know what that means. When I crop, I crop out the aspect ratio of a print I want, then see what DPI I end up with. The file size of a JPG isn't an indicator of anything really.

I took some test images of the R6 and resized them to my 5D4 size, and then processed those files. Looks pretty good really. If wedding photogs can make due with the 1DX2 now, the R6 is no different.

R6's IBIS has given my EF 180 macro new life! That lens doesn't have image stabilization. Given my 67 year old somewhat shaky hands, I had to use a tripod for the EF 180. I don't like tripods! So I tried the lens today on the R6, and IBIS allowed me to shoot reliably down to 1/160th. I'm happy with that!

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

20 MP is the same as your 1DX2. Anything you currently print with that will print the same from an R6.

True

But for Wildlife shooting I think the larger sensor is a little better. Even with a 500F4 and a TC....If I cant frame the shot and I have to do some cropping...I think I am better off with the R5 sensor

For me

Im keeping my 1Dx2 and 5D4

Im probably gonna be doing more wildlife work so Im really leaning R5

I was out today on my boat with the 300 and a 1.4 TC.....pretty far

45 MB sensor and ability to crop might give me some more options

The 100-400 with a 1.4x or 2x will be just fine on the R6, since it works already on the M50. This gives me a 560mm or 800mm combination for wildlife. But I also have my M50 for reach and pixel density as well as the 5D4.

For sure!

I've decided to go all-in. I have the R6 now; I'll have the R5 and the RF 100-500 whenever Kenmore Camera gets some. I'm planning for my 1DX2, 5D4, 6D2, and 100-400 II to go to new owners once I'm satisfied with the R5. I really like the lighter weight, and the EVF lag of earlier mirrorless seems to be gone.

That is my plan too, eventually I will get the R5 as the big brother to the R6, and sell the 5D4. I will likely keep most of my EF glass however for some time.

Im totally in love with my 1Dx2

Its like 2nd nature for me when I have it in my hands. Just works too good for my needs

Im going mirrorless for portraits. Eye focus in auto modes is a no brainer for bridal portraits, couples and individual portrait needs....That said...zero issues for me hitting what I want to hit with the 1Dx2 and 5D4......Mirrorless is just a little more CONVENIENT FOR SOME NEEDS

I think for wedding receptions the DSLrs and still going to be the camera of choice

I love mine, too. Maybe rather than selling it I'll put it on my nostalgia shelf next to my 1977 Olympus OM-1. :-)

I was out this morning testing EF100-400 MK II, EF200-400 and RF800. I am so impressed with this camera. Following shot is really lucky shot and I would NOT have been able to get this under the same conditions with my 1DX! I am definately selling my 1DX.

I was not ready when this surfer jumped but I still manged to get him within the viewfinder and eye/face focus locked on him and out of 4 shots 3 were in focus and #2 and #3 was also approximately in the center of the frame the two other on the edge of the frame.

Ok, configured it and tried out DPP with it, here is my first attempt with 19 shots. Thanks for the idea!
