I've searched and really have not found a lab that will print (and do a great job) 48 x 60. Anybody know of one?

Thanks.

I use White House Custom Color for my own printing and for family/gifts: https://www.whcc.com (external link)

They've always been great and highly responsive.

I don't think they print that large though. Not listed on the website. That's what I checked first as I love them.

Yeah, I didn't see it either, but my client called and decided to go with two prints about 45" on the long side instead.

Let's talk large prints. First of all, what do we mean by "print"? Today you have so many options the word doesn't have much meaning in the traditional sense. Canvas, paper, aluminum, plex, even wood can be printed directly. What about the print technology? Ink, analog, dye transfer? What about quality? When you say you want a "great print" what does that really mean? Are you ready to pay fine art prices or will commercial quality be suitable for your requirements? Why the big difference in price? Color criticality and defect tolerance have a bearing on price. Commercial quality might be fine for hotel art, tradeshow displays, etc. Commercial is often printed on machines with higher throughput but lesser gamut. All that being said I've seen some real nice dye sub printed direct to metal. Art photographers that my wife works with at Colorchrome Atlanta are using it quite a bit.

Also give thought to the logistics of buying a large image. If it is on a solid substrate whether mounted or printed directly you have potentially substantial crating shipping charges. If you order paper or canvas unmounted you need a local vendor who can mount the piece without destroying it. Most will disclaim responsibility for damage.

Mounting can drive the price up substantially more than the cost of the print media which is why printing direct to substrate is so appealing. Mounting is inherently risky for whoever is doing it. Cleanliness is paramount and one little speck of dirt can ruin a fine art job. Canvas is sort of a special case since it should usually be easy to ship a rolled canvas and have it stretched locally by a frame shop. It just isn't the right medium for some types of art.

Yes, have considered that and more. First issues first since so many no longer deal with 'large' pieces. Thanks!

For future reference, they'll go as large as you want, you just have to do a custom order and specify. Charged by sq ft
