A couple more.... When I by chance ran into this gorgeous Red-tailed Hawk while taking a walk on this bright sunny winter day, it was being harassed persistently by a group of magpies and crows. When it flew away and landed on the field, I initially thought it was to run away from the annoying birds. Soon enough, however, I learned otherwise as it quickly started pounding on the ground in search of a vole that it detected. No luck and no meal, though, as its efforts went unrewarded.

Great shots, SYS. Love the second especially. Too bad he didn't catch anything. By the way, love the low angle of these shots!

Thanks, Levina. When approaching the hawk from afar, I decided to go from lower hill and went down on my knees for the angle. If a chance allows me for such an angle, I hate to waste it!

Egyptian Goose. There were two flying (there are always two) but the other one was a way ahead. This is in the old, abandoned and derelict little harbour on a lake nearby where I regularly go to visit the cormorants. I usually shoot at the other side of the place but sometimes Grebes can be found here. Not this time.

By the way, I hate Topaz Denoise. There, I said it. When it's good, it's really good. But it is often way too aggressive. And, it actually creates chromatic aberration where none in the raw file exists. It does!

It was a grey and damp day, but I like how these shots came out. More clarity than I would've expected. The lens did great!

First time seeing Egyptian Goose; never even heard of it until now, so glad you posted them.

Also first time hearing that Topaz Denoise creates chromatic aberration! That's interesting as I've never noticed with my use. The combo of RF 100-500 and 1.4x creates more chromatic aberration than I like to tolerate (has anyone noticed that?), so I was trying to fix it in my old edition of LR while editing my Red-tailed Hawk series earlier today but wasn't successful. Don't know whether it's because my LR6 is too old to fix the aberration effectively or I wasn't doing it right but I'm tired of dealing with the aberration in post edits whenever I use the lens combo.

Yes, Topaz Denoise does create CA. I think it's mostly when using Low Light mode. And I do have to zoom in a bit, but look here (it's a screenshot). This for me is unacceptable. Even if I had to zoom in 200% or whatever. And this is not even the worst I've seen.

EDIT: Forgot to say that this was done to the downsized but otherwise unedited file.

Sys they're excellent captures, particularly the second.
It was good you persevered and able to see that.
Thanks for posting along with the explanation.

I love that second one Levina. It really shows those magnificent birds off in their natural environs.
They stand out from the background which though busy I don't find distracting.
A lovely photo.

I share your grievances re the chromatic abbreviations. They are so annoying and I've found appear at odd times. Never been able to isolate why. Has a mind of its own!

I’m pleased you said that, Richard, because I wasn’t sure if I should post them as they’re not exactly good shots with that background. But I decided I liked them nonetheless if alone because it shows a place that I visit a lot. And like you I don’t find the background too distracting as the birds stand out rather nicely. In short: thank you! :-P

AFAIK CA happens when there is high contrast, like branches against a light sky. But the CA here is caused entirely by Topaz Denoise, it isn’t present in the raw file. And it is a very specific type of CA. I did some testing and it does seem to be Topaz’ Low Light mode where it’s caused. A mode to avoid then.

Nice image showing massive crop. I love how deep we can crop on some images with R5.
Was this at 700mm or 454mm as LR shows.
