I got so tired of unfiltering and refiltering that I spoke up about it in a wildlife thread. Discussion is copied here.
Drat, another one imported directly from that Lens Sample Photo Archive place.
??? Not sure how I should take your comment.
It's a complaint. I don't mean to offend anyone by it, but I do wish I didn't see this so often:
The LSP Archive seems very popular as a first stop when someone has a new photo. Then the photo is copied from there to the gallery and then to content forums. I have the choice of missing what may be very good images or taking the time to unblock, watch the page refresh, reblock, watch refresh again.
Why don't I leave LSP Archive visible all the time? Because it'd add a lot more images of just everything to my versions of New Posts and RTAT, which already contain much to sort through and select from. I'm interested in wildlife (and some other subjects) but not particularly in lenses.
So is there a better way? Seems that posting once and adding to gallery would take less server space than posting the same shot in different threads.
Would posting the shot in this thread and adding to my Gallery first, then making the post in the LSP Archive and selecting it from Gallery in that post solve the issue?
I don't know which among the alternatives would save server space. People who reuse photos in perpetual non-content-related threads in the Competitions forum, like A-Z and Colors and The Photo Below Me, post them anew. This is evident because those threads include many images that I've seen before.
Posting a wildlife shot in Wildlife, thence to your gallery, and thence to the LSP Archive would make my viewing easier but would no doubt have the opposite effect on followers of the Archive. Lens people aren't necessarily animal people. Some may have Wildlife blocked. They wouldn't want to go through the routine I described for viewing an image from a blocked forum.
Another consideration is that not reposting reduces one's audience and may consequently exclude potential comments and Likes.
OhLook that image showed up okay here, but I gather not if it's in a locked out thread etc.
Isn't that our (my) problem though? If I chose to block something then I take responsibility for the consequences and if it means not seeing images then I wouldn't want to think I am forcing others to act differently due to my choice.
Maybe I've missed a point here?
I understand the case you make. The point you miss is, I'm not using force. I'm only alerting members who may not have thought about forum filtering–some don't use it at all–to its effect on their intended display of images. They're free to post in whatever way suits them.
Among forums I've blocked, the LSP Archive, as a source, turns up most often in the forums I look at. In second place, probably, is Sony Cameras. I get the impression that many people prioritize gear over pictures. I'm here for the pictures much more than the gear.
This may be a better discussion for the AMASS forum because an image is tied to a area a user may have blocked. When the image is displayed in another subforum, you may wish to see it there. To my eyes, it's a programming thing, rather than the posting user doing something.
You're right, and I'll bring it up there when I'm less busy
. The perfect solution would be analogous to AMASS!'s "Peek this post" for ignored members.
