My website is nearing about 85% completion, at which point I wanted to publish it and get some feedback to refine it.

The goal is low volume sales without the loss of commissions via selling through a website like Fine Art America or Etsy, etc.

Any thoughts welcome!

Hi there,

I jump on your thread because I'm curious to see your website.

So something has drawn my attention: When I clicked an image at the landing page, it then redirects the user to the gallery with the thumbnails under. That's fine for me, but the loading of the image itself and the cart is taking an eternity. This could cost you people not to stay...

So I inspected your code and I'm curious: Why is it your delivering an 5000x8000 jpg image ? It's a good way to give away your work actually . That's my personal opinion, but I wouldn't leave anything above 1000pix to 1200pix the highest side.

Wow I just downloaded the picture and I can print myself your artwork in 18x27 inches @300dpi ... Imagine how big I could print that if I downsampled it -?

I love the integration of your instagram feed into your webpage: I definitely will reuse that for mine; the idea is cool.
But honestly the size of your pics on your website is overkill and not an incentive to buy you anything as you already give away for free

As tourscapekeepers said, you have a (security) problem there with image sizes. Better take your site down until you deliver only small previews of your images. Never put such large (originals) to a publicly viewed area, you won't sell a single print if people can have your source files in such a way.

+1 to the above. Not only is it easy to circumvent the right click prevention and download the high res image, it also makes site/image loading needlessly slow.

To be honest, it's almost a losing game no matter what you do. For example, even when an image is downsized for public display, there is now software* out there which will not only upres thumbnails that are merely 800 or 900 pixels on the long side that will also improve the quality, eliminate pixelation, and remove noise at the same time netting an image good enough to be printed at 8x10, 11x14, and perhaps even larger. And if used to print a canvas at 100 or 150 lpi, even larger yet.

About the only way to discourage theft any more is with watermarks. And no, that doesn't stop thieves either but it does make it harder because they have to take the time to remove the watermark.

* - I am intentionally not naming the software I am thinking about. I hope nobody else does either. Some may know about it, some may not. However, there is no reason to help thieves by telling them what to buy.

On iPad the captions take too much vertical space. Perhaps experiment with your available white space and fonts.
