While shooting some hummingbirds my camera, 7D Mkii, locked up and would not focus. It kept flashing 1.8 or 2.2 aperture as aperture settings. Turn my 7D Mkii off, still the same. Shut it off a second time and everything worked fine. Later on it did it again. This has happened several times.
I suspect it is the lens, but it doesn't explain the change in the aperture settings to a lower value than the lens is rated at.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas as to whether it's the camera or lens?

Until you try the camera with another lens it'll be hard to know what's happening.

Just tried my 70-200 f/2.8 L IS in live view mode and it won't focus. If does focus in the normal mode.

Not to be pedantic, but do everything the same to see if the error repeats in the same way with a different lens. There are settings that change they way your camera focuses in live view so it's important to nail down one failure before moving to the next
