I have been using Paint Shop Pro from the days before Corel acquired it. The price back then was a very small fraction of what Adobe Photoshop cost. I had tried free copies of Elements provided on complementary CDs provided via scanner purchases and other device purchases. Yet I had never been very impressed with it enough to continue using Elements.

When RAW file conversion was the rage, Elements came out with a limited RAW conversion set of capabilities, but I found them to be more limited than the RAW conversion that came with Paintshop Pro. Many years ago I published on POTN comparisons of RAW conversion capabilities, comparing Elements RAW with Paintshop Pro RAW vs. Lightroom RAW. Paintshop Pro was more capable than Elements for RAW manifpulation. Elements and Painsthop Pro were both were less capable for RAW manipulation than Lightroom....no surprise, you get what you pay for. I feel that Elements and Paintshop Pro are good enough for RAW conversion by someone who does not have demanding needs for a more sophisticated RAW convertor (Photoshop or Lightroom), especially for someone wanting to try out the workflow without any added expense over the software they have been using for JPG editing.

As a hobbyist photographer who does no graphic arts manipulation, I have never found the need for features in Photoshop. When the version of Paintshop Pro gets to be about a year old, it drops in licensing price to about half the newer version ...better than paying subscription fees every month. So Lightroom 6.1 is my primary RAW convertor, as I do no own any digital bodies not supported by that. And Paintshop Pro is my go-to editor for JPG (although I still prefer using LR for exposure and white balance and tint control).

I downloaded the elements free trial last month and compared both.
I didn't notice enough differences from my really old 2012 photo elements version.
Both software manufacturers have good features though.
I do like the Corel After Shot Pro it's pretty good and no subscription.

I've used PSP for years. I think it's a very underrated photo suite.

Yes. . I use Elements 2016.

I wish I knew how to use it better, but I am not too big on reading instructions or watching tutorials. . So, if I can't just "figure it out" quickly, then I pretty much won't learn it. . Learned how to do a couple of things and they're the only things I use. . Pity that I don't like to focus and concentrate more than I do, because the program is capable of so much more than I do with it.

Would be nice if someone would come over to my place and just show me how to use more of the features. . That's how I learn best, by having someone show me in person how to do something. . That's far better than trying to follow along with a tutorial or a step-by-step written guide.

A really good Photoshop Elements forum. They support much more than Elements; Full Photoshop, LR, Topaz, onOne, NIK etc.

Speaking of Elements, here's an online magazine that offers tutorials. A bit old, it ends at 2016.

Thanks for the reminder!

I got that in an email from B&H last night, but had already forgotten.

The Elements version I have been using is 2016 ..... may be a good time to get an updated version. . If I update once every 5 years, and always wait for the deal, then it costs me $12 a year for Photoshop ..... that's a price I can live with, I guess.

I have Elements 2018 and like the Camera Raw plugin.
Bought a newer version of my Olympus and Elements wouldn't open the Raw files. Corel would.
Said I needed to update Camera Raw.
I trialled latest Elements and preferred 2018.
Took me a while to work out why my conversions weren't saved . They swapped the save and cancel buttons at bottom right of screen :-(

Wasn't impressed with Adobe in regards to the Raw files. I think they just used my new camera for an excuse to force upgrade.
Still looking for an alternative but I like Elements 2018 and will probably stick with it even if I have to upgrade.
