Hello hivemind...

I wasn't sure where this question should go so admin's feel free to move with my apologies if this is not acceptable. That said, I have some prints that I have had for some time and I am pretty sure they aren't being optimally kept. What is the best way to store printed photos of varying sizes (4x6 [old - non-digitized] thru 16x20)? I have heard something about acid free paper and such but what about the container? What about a filing system? Should photos be placed together without some kind of separation? We have several hundred which we'd like to store and am curious on your thoughts and experiences.

Much appreciated!

It depends. Pigment inks are more durable than color dyes.

The general recommendations for conventional photosensitive photos with organic dyes is probably a good Rule of Thumb.
Outgassing from wood or Polyvinyl Chloride and polyvinyl acetate are harmful. Light is harmful.

So inside a metal file cabinet in is probably safer than in your dresser drawer. And not in PVC or PVA sleeves.
