I've always been struggling with polar alignment using the Synscan controller (NEQ6 Pro) and I once even tried drift aligning .. that wasn't a pleasant experience.
A friend convinced me to upgrade SharpCap to the pro version... and what a difference it made!
I ran a quick and dirty polar alignment with the hand controller, then handed off to SharpCap. As soon as it plate solved, I was aligned to 'excellent' within 2 or so minutes. My guiding is the best it's been, the Goto functionality is finally accurate enough to not have to fossick about after picking my target.
I'm shooting M16 again tonight, but I think I will get whatever data I need all in one hit as I haven't killed a lot of time working on the alignment.
If you're struggling for an accurate alignment, use some software such as SharpCap, I would throw the Handset away but it is an expensive bit of kit.....
