I sold a few MFT items to MPB in exchange for cash and an EF 8-15mm f/L late last year.
MBP offer for my lenses was better than KEH and MPB price on the 8-15mm was better than KEH. MPB honored their offer, no attempt to lower (I honestly/conservatively rated it when seeking the quote). Deal went off without a hitch and the lens I got from them was like new as far as I could see even though they rated it as the next grade down (“excellent”).
While the lens prices they offered were less than I wanted, lenses were getting no interest locally or on the MFT forum. I understand they have costs and need to make a profit, they certainly did better than my local store was willing to give me as trade.
Fast forward to last month, a couple more MFT lenses there was no local interest on. KEH offered about $75 more than MPB, so I went with KEH.
KEH got my gear, dropped my rating by one grade on one lens (like new- to excellent+) and dropped by two grades on the other (like new- to excellent). That made for a difference of $170 combined, making their offer about $100 less than MPB.
I knew I rated my gear properly by their descriptions, so I said no thanks and to return the lenses. They offered to reassess and get back to me. A few days later they bumped the offer by $65. Still made them $30 less than MPB’s offer, but by this time it had been 10 days since I sent the lenses off.
I took KEH’s final offer only to avoid delay and hassle of waiting for lenses to be returned, with no idea of their condition on return, and then to send to MPB with no guarantee their original offer prices hadn’t changed.
Lesson learned, in the future I will deal with MPB over KEH when it comes to selling used gear that I can’t find private interest in.
