Have you Calibrated your Monkey lately?

Now more than ever we need to be a community, working together and for each other, as photographers, as lovers of photography and as members of POTN.

Picked up the 1Dx for the first time in months today - must say it's heavier than I remember!

The exercise is good for you... at least that’s what I keep telling myself!

Some formerly active members are indeed on eternity leave. Members whose tenure goes farther back than mine would know more. Sometimes you'll see an announcement that So-and-So is no longer with us.

I notice that Tom Reichner has not posted in about 2 months. He was very active on this site. Hope all is well.

If it's still deer-rut season, he's probably traveling in deer country.

Yes I'd noticed his absence and Sibil also. He was prolific but not posted for ages.
Tom was one that commented on absences and now he is also

.
OhLook is right, or at least partially so.

I work on wildfires, and this season was very unusual for me. . Right after Labor Day, I got called to a fire in Oregon, where I worked for 3 weeks. . As I was driving back home from that Oregon fire, another fire call came in, and I was dispatched to a fire in California ..... so I turned around, and drove to the fire in California, where I remained until November 19th! . Usually, fire season ends for me sometime during the last week of September, so this was a very different year for me.

So I was released from the fire in California on the 19th, got back home on the 20th, packed my car, and left for Montana that night. . I was stressing big-time, because by this time I had missed most of the deer rut, which I thought that never in my life would ever happen. . I was desperate to get whatever I could of the tail end of the rut before the deer's breeding hormones stopped flowing for the season.

So I got to my favorite Montana deer photography spot on the 21st, and remained there for 6 days. . Then I drive to Colorado to go to my favorite Colorado deer photography spot and shot there for 7 1/2 days.

I got home from the MT and CO deer photography endeavors on the 7th of December, was home for a week (during which I posted actively on POTN) and then on December 15th I left to go photograph ducks in California for 10 days ..... left CA on Christmas morning and drove to my friend's place on the Olympic Peninsula to visit with him and his kids for 4 days, then finally returned home on December 30th.

So, between fire duty, wildlife photography, and visiting my friend, I was only home for a total of 9 or 10 days from Labor Day all the way through New Year's Day. . Whew!

I tend to not be active on POTN when I am away from home, as I don't like to use my phone for forum stuff. . I find a big computer monitor with a full keypad and access to all of my archived photos is really the only way to post the way I want to. . There's too much chance for misspellings and improper punctuation when I post things from a phone, and such things drive me insane. . Phones really suck when you try to use copy and paste functions a whole lot, which I do when posting to this forum. . And it's hard for my eyes to tell the difference between a period and a comma, or between a colon and a semi-colon, or the difference between a capital I and a lower case i and an l, when using my little phone.

So, whenever I'm at home, I participate very actively here on the forum. . When I am away from home, I usually don't bother. . It's just not enjoyable to do on mobile devices, and I am really busy when traveling, anyway.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

WOW! A very busy man you have been! Thank you for your service in the fire department!

I also do not like using my phone for typing on forums. It is hard enough typing a text message for me!!

I agree with a big computer to use for visiting forums. A phone is good for looking something up quick, checking the radar, etc., but for long writings...nah. What really gets me are long, short story-sized text messages to me...huh, use the phone app and CALL ME!!!!! I'm glad you got some shooting in, Tom, good for the spirit.
