Ok,

So I have a Panasonic UX90 which is doing well for "run and gun" documentary work..... Check
I have a GoPro 7 Black for action videos..... Check
I've got a couple of drones that produce some nice 4k Arial shots.... Check
I have a D850 that does fine for stationary shallow dof shots.

I have nothing for shallow dof shots that are moving.

I am intrigued with the blackmagic pocket but here again nothing as far as follow focus and I just can't wrap my head around trying to pull focus while on a gimbal.
I'm hoping the Z6 II will provide what I need. I think Panasonic, Sony, and Canon would do better but I'm heavily invested in Nikon lenses.

Is there something I am missing in my thinking? Am I missing options?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Hi there, i was somewhat in the same predicament, except i am a photographer first, and a video guy second.

With a budget and needing an all around good camera that could step into the gaps of my photo and video needs, i came across a couple of 7D Mark IIs.

While a crop sensor (full sensor better than crop, but I needed the redundancy), i found that the Dual Pixel focusing system is -despite the camera's cougary age- still one of the best AF out there to date.

So my suggestion would be to find whichever Dual Pixel Camera you can afford. A great AF platform for run and gun (I do use AF sometimes while gimbaled - Moza Air 2) plus the manual focus, and many other applications.

Here is a link to Dual Pixel AF explained:

In short, if you can afford a 5D MkIV or a 6DMkII, great. If not a well cared for 7D MkII will be a great tool. Hope this helps!

Thank you! This helps greatly. For one it confirms that I am thinking in the right direction per your having already worked through the process. The explanation of the focusing system is great to read as well. Explained in those terms, I understand the technology whereas with marketing speak I only know it has a cool name and the manufacturer wants my money. I will add cameras using this technology to my search. I can't say that I'm anything first, second, or last. I'm just captivated by the images that can be created both moving and still and find both equally intriguing and fulfilling.

Again, I want to thank you for responding. Your response is exactly what I need from the perspective of been there done that. I realize this is a photography forum first and respect that but all of the video forums I have found are doa with the latest post a few months ago.

I am actually so happy that this site has a video section. I've been around these forums for quite some time, and a better group of people i have yet to meet.

I think the photo vs video comment was more for me than anything else, it is a whole new journey and one i could not claim to know or do very well. :-)

Welcome to POTN!.. Hope more peeps will chime in.
