I have had my eye on this leather hand grip/strap:

https://www.amazon.com …RFPQ/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza (external link)

My hesitation is in the possibility of it interfering with the battery and card doors.

Does anyone have experience using a similar hand grip on a 7D or 7DMkII ?

Does it make accessing the battery and memory cards inconvenient ?

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

It won't affect access to cards or battery but I would avoid it. I tried something similar and found it so rigid and inflexible that I needed to have it so loosely fitted to the hand that it defeated the object of having it. It looks pretty but if you can't move your hand enough to operate the camera controls then it doesn't help.

The best handgrips are the soft thin black leather ones that are made by Canon, even the cheap copies are good. I always use these and find they only last about 3 years but are very cheap to replace.

Thanks for the input.

I was not aware that Canon offered a leather hand grip; I will have to look into that.
Once I get a store-bought one for a pattern, I can improve upon the design and make my own.

Spider Holster has very nice straps that don’t interfere with battery or memory card doors. Kind of expensive but work and feel nice. Been using them for a few years and am very happy with them.

I investigated the Spider Holster hand grips and discovered that they are somewhat unique in how the bottom end attaches to the tripod connection; instead of requiring a slot in whatever bracket one has attached to the bottom of the camera for the grip's bottom strap to thread through, as best I can determine, the Spider grip attaches either directly to the tripod socket, or sandwiched between the tripod socket and whatever tripod bracket one desires.

I think that is a great idea and superior to the means that most other grips attach.

Canon's latest grips allow for both tripod socket and bottom grip attachements. You use what your camera has.

This a a 5D4 body but very close to the 7D2. This strap is wide across the back for support and padded for comfort. Yes it interferes with that battery door but is easy to move, and it can have a tripod attachment added on to it. I've used it for several years and not until now did I notice it doesn't have a brand name on it.

I always found Canon straps a bit too bulky. I tried them a couple of times and finally went with the one from Spider Holster.
