I have posted a few shots with shots taken with my Canon TS-E 24mm, mostly on my thread Tilt Shift.

However, everytime it shows the lens as a Canon TS-E 17mm. I have never owned a 17mm.

Any ideas please?

Thanks
Simon.

The Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II lens came out in 2009 but the original was introduced in 1991. Just speculating, but do you know which one you have? Does this happen with all the bodies (1DX, 5DIII, 7D) that you mention?

Also, you might get some better responses if you posted this in the Canon EF and EF-S lenses forum.

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=33

By the way, you aren’t the only person to have reported the issue with the 24mm being identified as 17mm. Not sure if it still works with later versions of Windows, but if it really bothers you, there was a utility that would change it in the EXIF, somewhat automatically. Thanks for the report.

Best place to post is in the "gear Database corrections" thread in AMASS Forum;

Hmmm, not sure that is the best place, as depending on the skills of the OP he may not even find it. To summarize his issue, his 24mm lens reports in EXIF as a 17mm and he is looking to correct that. I do see he has been on the forum recently and my questions remain unanswered, which of course could be the OP's choice.

Having said all that, you are a moderator.

I'm guessing that's it's EXIF as shown on POTN, not in the image itself. I would think someone would have noticed if the TS-E 24 was reporting as the TS-E 17 in the actual image EXIF. As you meyioned above, this is not a new lens.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Ah, different take on the wording and as I reread the original post I see what you mean.

To clarify.

The images were taken with a TS-E 24mm, however when I post them on here, POTN shows EXIF data that it is a TS-E 17mm, as in the image attached.

This was taken with a TS-E 24mm.

Hope that clears it up.

Thanks
Simon.

Thanks for the clarification Simon...definitely my bad!

But, have you examined the actual EXIF? As I said you are not the first person to mention this incorrect identification with the TS-E 24mm lens.

John, you may have hit the nail on the head. I've just checked Capture One and as you can see it is showing a TS-E 17mm.
It would appear the issue is pre POTN.

Needs more investigation.

Thanks
Simon. :)

What might be of interest would be how your other two bodies (1DX & 7D) “see” the lens. Also, I wonder if you go through the steps to register the lens for peripheral corrections, how is it recognized? See https://support.usa.canon.com …page=content&id=ART107736 (external link)

The plot thickens Dr Watson!

I checked using Photomechanic on the above image and on some I took last year.

The image above show the lens as a TS-E 17mm.

The images from last year show a TS-E 24mm!!

So, what is the difference?

In August I damaged the lens and it needed a replacement part, diaphragm possibly.

I assume therefore that, the repair has somehow changed something.

Ideas anyone ........... again!

Cheers

Simon.

You never answered my questions:

The Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II lens came out in 2009 but the original was introduced in 1991. Just speculating, but do you know which one you have? Does this happen with all the bodies (1DX, 5DIII, 7D) that you mention?

Speculating, both of the versions of the lens are old enough that the repair might have been done by an independent shop that perhaps cannibalized some parts from the 17mm to get your 24mm lens working nd doing so without realizing the ramifications. And to be truthful, just how many people check the EXIF that closely?

The repair was done by a reputable business in London. I had to wait for spares to arrive ....... So I was told! ;-)a

I think I will call them tomorrow. By the way, the lens is the newer one. F3.5.
