Here's a stack of 50x180s images with no calibration frames as they haven't been done yet.

M42 is really the beginners Nebula because it's easy to find, but it is also one of the prettiest... it also helps that it's one of the few I can actually see at this time of the year!!

Gave it a really basic process in PS, but a EOS1500D, the cheapest canon DSLR I could find at the time, is producing some great results.

It might be a beginner's nebula because it's so easy to find but it requires a great deal of finesse to bring out detail in the outer filaments yet not blow out the bright core of the trapezium. It's almost impossible to get the best of this nebula with a single exposure. It works best with short exposures for the core and longer exposures for the fainter outer portions and then a bit of HDR blending.
