Thanks. I have been sort of looking at the R6 as I don't have a FF body yet and do have a few EF-S lenses

The R also shoots with EFS glass too, if you don't need the great eye AF or 20fps silent shooting.

I mostly do sports and landscape/wildlife as a hobbist. I do shoot some high school sports for the local paper. Not sure the R has the frame rate for sports

Crop mode on the R6 is 8MP; about the same as the 20D and 30D DSLRs, but the R6 will AF much better, and has way less noise than the 20D/30D, and will shoot much faster.

I shoot the 5D4 with its almost comparable frame rate for pro sports, and it was fine. If you are intimate with the sport and it is a pretty repeatable sport (like basketball) and you get to know the players, burst rates aren't critical. Just comes down to experience with the sport and even the team players I feel.

I will warn you, 20fps in silent mode comes with some baggage:
- You will burn through cards very quickly
- You might get some rolling shutter artifacts in some sports

I shot 2 rugby sequences where a player made a break for the end zone, for just a few seconds each time, and I had 45-70 images (for each sequence) to cull through. I can't imaging if I did 20fps bursts throughout the game, yikes!

However 12fps mechanical is fine.

I am not a real machine gun shooter. I usually use the slower rate on my 7DII, with the exception of sprints/jumps in track. I have set the low speed continuous to 6 fps.

Just be aware that you only get the full 12fps mechanical shutter when condtions are "perfect", ie. you have a fully charged battery, you use the right lenses, etc. Otherwise the burst rate may end up down to what you were used to on your 7D2, which sounds like it won't be an issue for you. :)

Probably not. The only time I found myself using quite a few bursts was a swim meet that I shot last year. Mostly because I had never shot swimming before and really didn't know when/where to get the best shots.

Although, when I see sales that allow you to get a 5dMkIV for 200 less than the new R6, it does make me wonder if that is not a better deal

Can I ask, that joystick on the R6, does it work for selecting focus points?

You can set it up that way, yes.

That depends on your needs.

Do you need fast burst speeds? ISO 102K? Do you need to push very deep shadows? Do you need the advanced tracking AF mode of the R6?

The 5D4 is still going to give you better IQ at medium ISOs and brighter tones of low and medium ISOs, with greater resolution, and give you a realtime viewfinder.

The 1dx is def a beast, and gives you an unmatched feeling while operating, but the R6 has the same sensor and processor + it's in the new canon architecture. The focus on the R6 and R5 make it really hard to go back to OVF's imo.

So I guess my vote is the R6
