On Amazon I found three Canon batteries: LP-E6, LP-E6N, and LP-E6NH. I couldn't find the E6NH on Canon's website, so I don't know whether or not it fits my 80D. The E6N is now up to about $75, but the older E6 is $59. But I suspect that any E6N batteries left in the supply chain must be rather old. My two questions are: 1) Does anyone know about the LP-E6NH? And 2) Does anyone have any thoughts about the older but cheaper LP-E6?
They are all cross-compatible; the only difference is capacity. The LP-E6 has the least, and the LP-E6NH the most.
I know that when the LP-E6 was the only option when I bought a 5D2 back in Feb 2009, I soon found after-market batteries that claimed to have more capacity, and experience did not contradict. In fact, I still have a couple that I bought in 2009 or 2010, and I still use one now in my R5 (the other is misplaced), and it lasts just as long as my Canon LP-E6 that came with my 7D2.
After-market batteries seem to be extremely compatible in general, and don't suffer from problems with incompatibility as non-OEM lenses and accessories sometimes do. In fact, the only reason I have any Canon batteries is because one comes with each camera I buy. Just one anecdotal experience here, but I have found that the Canon batteries seem to develop resistant contacts in that need cleaning (through repetitive reseating) more than the after-market batteries that I use, to allow them to charge in the Canon charger.
