On Amazon I found three Canon batteries: LP-E6, LP-E6N, and LP-E6NH. I couldn't find the E6NH on Canon's website, so I don't know whether or not it fits my 80D. The E6N is now up to about $75, but the older E6 is $59. But I suspect that any E6N batteries left in the supply chain must be rather old. My two questions are: 1) Does anyone know about the LP-E6NH? And 2) Does anyone have any thoughts about the older but cheaper LP-E6?

They are all cross-compatible; the only difference is capacity. The LP-E6 has the least, and the LP-E6NH the most.

I know that when the LP-E6 was the only option when I bought a 5D2 back in Feb 2009, I soon found after-market batteries that claimed to have more capacity, and experience did not contradict. In fact, I still have a couple that I bought in 2009 or 2010, and I still use one now in my R5 (the other is misplaced), and it lasts just as long as my Canon LP-E6 that came with my 7D2.

After-market batteries seem to be extremely compatible in general, and don't suffer from problems with incompatibility as non-OEM lenses and accessories sometimes do. In fact, the only reason I have any Canon batteries is because one comes with each camera I buy. Just one anecdotal experience here, but I have found that the Canon batteries seem to develop resistant contacts in that need cleaning (through repetitive reseating) more than the after-market batteries that I use, to allow them to charge in the Canon charger.

NH came out with the new R bodies.

The EOS R5 is powered by an advanced new LP-E6NH battery, which adds 20 per cent more capacity than older LP-E6N batteries, letting you capture (on average) 490 shots on a single charge.*

LP-E6NH batteries can be charged using the supplied battery charger or in-camera via USB C 3.1, with 5V/1.5A power delivery (PD) capabilities. The BG-R10 battery grip is also available, which can accommodate two batteries at once for extended shooting times.

Older LP-E6 and LP-E6N batteries are compatible with the EOS R5, although the very fastest shooting rates and in-camera charging are not available when using the LP-E6.

Why not consider aftermarket? Wasabi and a couple others are well known and work as well, if not better than the Canon lp-e6.

Personally I would not buy batteries off Amazon because you don't know the source (regardless of labeling) nor do you know the age, a factor when it comes to the chips inside the battery. Buy direct from the importer, that will insure you get fresh stock. I also would not worry about the LP-E6NH designation. As others have pointed out that refers to battery capacity. I own both the 60D and 80D and capacity is the least of my concerns since I get several hundred shots off a charge.

The Wasabi LP-E6 line can be found at https://www.wasabipower.com/collections/canon-lp-e6 (external link). Note that typically Wasabi has some very good bundles like two batteries and a charger for $23. See https://www.wasabipower.com …er-for-canon-lp-e6-lp-e6n (external link) and take note that is for (2) 2600 mAh batteries and charger. Note that the 2600 mAh battery actually exceeds the stated capacity of the Canon LP-E6NH which is 2130 mAh.

Another very popular brand is SterlingTEK. The link for the LP-E6 ($!4) is http://sterlingtek.trynt.com/canon-lp-e6-battery/ (external link) but unfortunately the 2600 mAh is shown as out of stock.

My experience with these batteries is they often won't deliver their best capacity when brand new. They are shipped, by law and for safety, at less then 50% charge level. So fully charge any that you buy on receipt. As you use the battery and recharge them a few times the full capacity becomes readily apparent.

I just ordered from an outfit called Lordone a pair of LP-E6N-equivalent batteries and USB charger from Amazon. With a Black Friday deal and extra discount they were $20. Does anyone have experience with Lordone batteries? On Amazon they had no one-star reviews out of 42, but there were no reviews older than mid-September.
