I am interested in gathering some opinions.
I currently own a 5DII and an EOS R.  I love the EOS R, and have purchased a RF24-70 2.8 L IS lens, and a RF 70-200 2.8 L IS lens to provide matching glass quality.  I would like to purchase another body, to have better second-body options than my 5DII.  I shoot mainly landscapes and event photography, with a bit of portrait work (no weddings).  I am debating between a second EOR R, or an R5.  I have PROs and CONs as I see them below.  Looking for additional perspectives I have not thought of.

EOS R5 PROs:
- IBIS (I seldom shoot in conditions that demand so many additional stops of stabilization)
- More megapixels for greater enlargement
- Two card slots
- Joystick in place of a slider
- Better auto focus (including animal autofocus)
- Video mode is best around, but I almost never do videos.
EOS R5 Cons:
- Extra cost (not a deal breaker, but saved funds could be re-allocated to other items such as grips, glass, extenders, etc)
- Second card slot is the "other kind" of card, so it would be a new memory card type for the workflow, and new card reader
- More file storage requirements (assuming full size file setting)
- IBIS? Meaning this is an additional component that could fail and drive a maintenance cost?  No history here, so just speculation.

A second EOS R PROs:
- Familiarity with both bodies.  No need to remember which body I have in hand, and which controlls are programmed for what
- Additional funds available for other items, as mentioned above
- File storage, more images per gigabite of HD space (I don't do many big enlargements anyway)
A second EOS R CONs:
- I am worried that this model will slide into orphanage status with Canon.  Do I want two orphans?

Another option is to get the second EOS R now, and save the additional funds and put them towards a R5 MkII (next generation) in a couple of years.

So I am interested in objective input, especially from those who own both.

It sounds like you know your situation well and have all the angles covered. Maybe the decision to get a new camera should be down to how often and necessary carrying a second body is to you?

If you’re happy with the EOS R and not needing to carry your 5d II daily on the same shoots why not wait to see what other options Canon releases in the future? Maybe an R5s or R II will suit your needs better.
