I'm debating which 70-200 to buy at the moment.

The f/4 looks ideal in terms of quality and size but the 2.8 does appeal for low light evening photography.

It's an investment in being covered for all situations really.

I'm a very casual photographer, it is my hobby but I rarely go out to take photos - I'm a very competitive cyclist and train 3-6hrs a day, that is my passion and, well, photography is mainly something I do when on holiday, day trips out with my wife etc.

I guess it is the same rationale as R5 v R6 for me. I had the R, brilliant but wanted the fps advantages and while the R6 is ideal, I went with the R5 for the cropping factor, being a crap, for-fun photographer, I crop a lot.

Now I'm ordering a 70-200 this weekend and while the f/4 is sensible for me, I just know I'll end up with the 2.8 because I like taking pictures at night sometimes.

Canon EOS R5 with: RF 24-105 L, RF 70-200 2.8 L , RF 24-240, RF 35, RF 16, RF 100-500 L, RF 100 2.8 Macro L, EL 100, Fujifilm X100V, GoPro Hero 9, DJI Mavic Air 2, Insta360
