I have been using Stellarium for a few years off and on. I brought it tonight looking for when Jupiter and Saturn will be very close to each other on December 21, 2020

I normally do not check the time/date Stellarium is showing but I did tonight. It was showing 2020 / 11 / 07 - with the wrong time also shown.

I googled "Set date in Stellarium" which gave me a web page HERE (external link)

I pressed the F5 key to bring up the window show in the web page, but my window does not match the window in the web page

Looks easy enough. I was able to change the date easy enough no problem

What I am seeing within Stellarium is Date & Time on the left then Julian Day on the right. I have not figured out how to add the time in the left window.

Any help given will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Ahhh the newer dark UI doesn't show it very well but the Julian Day side of the date/time window is a separate tab if you click on the heading. On the standard (F5) date and time window the left side is date, the right side is time.

Thank you. Before clicking on Julian Day I did correct the DATE - This is what I get when I click on Julian Day

The numbers are growing larger VERY quickly on both sides.

I just now tried something else. I changed the Date on the left side.

On the right side, WITHOUT clicking on the Julian Tab, I just changed the numbers in the format of 24 hour format.

I do believe that did the trick!!

I closed Stellarium and re-opened Stellarium.

It went back to the wrong date and time  CRAP!!!

Before I closed it, the time was good.

How do I SAVE the time change???

Ahh. If you press ALT+B you can open up the bookmarks window. Get your location/time/object setup how you want it, press ALT+B, tick the boxes for add date and time and add location and then Add Bookmark. Seems to only work if you have an object selected, eg. click on Jupiter. Then when you start the program you can hit ALT+B to bring up the bookmarks window and load the settings.

I am sorry, this does not make any sense to me. There HAS to be a way to save the time without having to use a bookmark.

I am being careful not to change my date and time as they are set to UTC right now and I don't want to mess it up BUT

What version of Stellarium are you running? I am running 0.19.1

have you gone into the configuration window? the little spanner and star on the left side panel

in there is the "TIME" button. Mine is set for System date and time

My Time Correction is set to "Espenak & Meeus (2006)" don't ask me why!

But now looking at it I am not sure how I got it to UTC vs Eastern time on the Desktop but Eastern on the laptop.

I'm using an older version...apparently much older version.... 0.13.3

But, have you gone into Configuration>Navigation>Startup date and time and made sure that nothing other than "System date and time" is checked?

Remember, I've got an older version and this may be an obvious setting but thought I'd mention it.

Best wishes,
Ed

Just to be on the safe side, I just now downloaded the latest version which shows in the opening window 0.20.3
When Stellarium is fully running, I click on the wrench in upper right corner of the screen, then I click on "About" I get 1.2.2

Opening the configuration window using the wrench with the star in the left hand panel I click on the Time Tab I am able to change the Date in the drop down MONTH tab to today's date. I am not able to find a way in this window to change the time!

Changing the date in the configuration screen does not stay changed when I close the configuration screen.

My Time Correction is set the same as yours Jeff - Espenak & Meeus (2006) which must be default I guess.

The line that shows Latitude and Longitude is what I see in Google Earth when I am located at my home within Google Earth.

One thing I do not understand is something I just realized today about my version of Stellarium, which stayed the same with the newly downloaded version today.

When I start Stellarium the date and time ALWAYS starts at the same date and same time. Date 2020-11-07 Time 1:38:00 at this point the time does start running at 1:38:00. Right now the time is showing 1:54:35 - when I close Stellarium and restart Stellarium it restarts at 2020-11-07 time 1:38:00

That I do not understand!

It appears no one here knows how to fix my problem. I do understand what is happening to me is probably very rare.

I went to stellarium.org to see if I could find any help there. I found they do have a "forum", and below that is: "get support, report bugs, request new features"

Clicking on forum takes me to THIS (external link)
Going down 3 places I see "Forum" again with a another new LINK (external link) This one looks like it could be the actual forum! I create a new login and get signed in.

I left this question...

I am having an issue that when I open Stellarium it ALWAYS starts at the same date, same time every time I open Stellarium, that being 2020-11-07 1:38:00

The clock starts running at 1:38:00
I have pressed F5 and corrected the date and time shown and it corrects the time and date in lower left corner of screen.
When I close Stellarium then re-open Stellarium it is again back at 20020-11-07 1:38

What can I do to correct this problem?

Yesterday I downloaded the latest version of Stellarium 0.20.3 or 1.2.2

I am running Windows 10 64bit on my desktop

Thank you

I hope they can answer my problem, and that I gave them enough information.

Press F2 - opens the Configuration dialog window.
Click the Time icon along the top of the dialog window.
Under Startup date and time, click the radio button named System date and time.
Click the window close X in the upper right.

Done.

I just went back to re-read what I have said, and what everyone else has said. In post #9 Intherswamp (Ed) said to do the same thing that you said to do gewb. When I replied back to Ed I never said and I should have said that I did indeed try doing that.

I just now tried again pressing F2 and then opening the "Time" tab then clicking on "System date and time" then the "X" in upper right hand corner.

Doing that does NOT change neither the date or the time for me unfortunately.

My computer system time right now shows "12/9/2020 at 1:10AM" and counting.

My Stellarium time now shows 2020-11-07 at 1:53 and counting

That is so weird. My PC and Stellarium have the same time except, on my laptop they are EST and on my desktop I keep Stellarium as UTC, but at least the minutes line up all the time although right now the time difference is 5 hours. so it is showing 14:35

Charles, this is probably redundant as you've probably already tried it but...

CONFIGUARATION>NAVIGATION> Under the "Startup-date-and-time" section check the box for "USE SYSTEM TIME"

*Then* go back to the MAIN tab in the on the same CONFIGURATION page and click the "Save Settings" button.

Just a thought....

Ed

ETA: I'm using a much older version so the above paths/commands may not be correct for use in your version. ?
