I have been studying up on back button focus and intend to give it another shot (I tried it a few years ago and gave up).

After quite a bit of reading and four lengthy videos, the question keeps coming up in my mind = if I disable shutter-button focus, what effect is that going to have on our Pixel TW-283 and RW-221 Remote Triggers; will these remote triggers still focus or will I have to revert back to normal when we use the remotes ?

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

Sorry can’t help BuckSkin. Have been reading and watching (short) videos about bbf and it is something I’d like to try, but never considered the potential issue with remote trigger. Would be interested to hear if you found an answer.

Generally speaking, you’ll need to have ‘normal’ AF assigned to the shutter button; at least I have my remotes (wired and wireless.

Practically speaking, this is easily overcome by settingone ofyour Custom Modes to do this and then leave things the way you like them in your regular modes. If you didn’t find the utility in BBAF before, is it worth the thrash of even worrying about it for a second round of uncertainty? Or are you just trying for the sake of the ‘others’ of us out here that swear by it? ߘ

A remote trigger simply performs a shutter button half press and full press, nothing more.

It cannot act as if it is pressing the AF ON. This is a restriction of the camera hardware, not the remote triggers. It would be nice if Canon would allow the AF ON to also be part of the remote trigger port.

Thanks for the input; I will investigate this Custom Mode business; I don't recall before messing with Custom Modes, so that will be new territory for me.

This digital photography business sure requires a quick mind, what with cameras loaded with features to remember, new software to learn, constantly finding new tricks in old software, not to mention having to be a computer whiz and fix-it man to keep it all running; then, add several different model cameras in the mix, none of them with the same button layout and all of them having tricks and features that the rest of them don't.

It is no wonder that most of my acquaintances never take their camera off of Full Auto and dump all of their red-eyed original jpegs straight into FaceBook with no culling whatsoever.

On another note, very unusual for this site, this is the second thread of mine that has languished for over seven months before getting any activity; and then, all of a sudden, coming alive.
It would almost lead me to believe that the postings had been invisible to others until now.

I think a good portion of us view the site by the New Posts filter when we get here and if it was posted during "off" hours then posts get shoved off the front page quickly and it kind of runs through cycles of which forums are most active. I participate, mostly, in the birding forums which are quite active and even there I have posts that go for days/weeks without a single comment or reaction. I don't have a great solution for you, just trying to confirm you're not nuts :) They aren't invisible but they're easy to miss in traffic sometimes.

Chances are gibjock did a search, found your question that matched something he was looking for, and revived the thread.

Not sure why your post did not illicit responses the first time though. It should have.
