Hello! I just purchased a used 5D Mark II from KEH. I accidentally put in a CF card with photos from my 5D. Now it’s taken to calling the folders and images after that older 5D camera. How to I start fresh with a new folder and number system, sort of like a factory reset?

Thanks.

Supposedly this will work...

Take a newly formatted card and take a single test shot.

Place the card in a reader and edit with the PC.

Renumber that image filename to the number you want (_0001?).

In the menu set camera to auto reset numbering mode and put the card in the camera then take one shot.

It will be numbered one greater than the number you had on the card.

Return to the menu and change back to continuous numbering mode.

By the way, when someone purchases a used camera, I personally recommend they reset everything back to factory defaults. That way at least the camera behaves the way the manual says it should as opposed to you moving forward with some surprises that might ruin an image.

You can find the manual at http://gdlp01.c-wss.com …02/eos5dmkii-im5-c-en.pdf (external link).

Verify the firmware is up t date as well. The most recent version is 2.12 and is available at https://www.usa.canon.com …subtab=downloads-firmware (external link).

Why bother? The file and folder numbers have no meaning other than being references to the images anyway.
