PLEASE drop me a PM and let me know how it did for performance

Why PM?

Please post to this thread so the rest of us can also benefit! ;-)a

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

im really having a tough time making a decision

I was not excited about these F/11 lens until I saw images from others that have them.
I have a friend out here that has the RF800....I think that is a better way to go. Images are outstanding. Its only $899 for the RF800 v/s a 100-400V2 at $1700 for a used one and $429 for a version 3 1.4 extender. When i order the R6 I think I will order the RF800 at the same time

here are some RF800 images. A couple others have the lens as well on the R5's and they are raving about performance

Yes Canon has made it tougher. The new lenses were baulked at when first announced. Now gaining popularity with the IQ.

Since it was asked.........

I received the 1.4x iii and to put it plainly, the performance improvement on the DX3, over the ii version is phenomenal. You get the entire large AF zone and I notice no degradation in AF performance on my Dust pump or 500/4 with the iii version attached. Images are still outstanding quality, although slightly less sharp than the 500/4 without a TC, as it is stellar.

I was expecting better IQ, I was not expecting to gain a ton of focus points. Well worth the upgrade.

UM, regarding the pictures you posted, that first one looks really soft on my monitor and what is his first name really? :) Or is that husband and wife?

So I have been considering the R6 but feel like I might miss the reach from the crop body 7DII. So if I were to get a 1.4 III TC, would it work with the EF-RF adapter and my Canon 100-400 II and Tamron 70-200 G2?

Yes for sure on the 100-400II as I have on my r5, and can't think of why not on the Tamron.

Haven't read the whole thread but I've used the 1.4 with EF-mount zooms/Canon EF-RF adapter/R5 and it works perfectly. This worked with both Canon and Sigma zooms. A Canon rep told me the R5 will also autofocus with the 2X extender/EF-mount zooms/Canon EF-RF adapter.

Existing 3rd-party lenses (and TCs) are always a wildcard with compatibility. You need reports or experience with specific combinations to be sure, and they must be using the same lens firmware as you will be using, too, to guarantee compatibility.

Thanks for that information.

If I remember too, I'll try to test the MkIII TCs with the Tamron. I've never had a reason to try. As mentioned, it definitely works with the 100-400mm on R5/6 with EF adapter.

That would be very helpful. I would not likely be purchasing any RF lenses right away and would want to use my existing glass if I go with a new R body. Thanks.

I can attest to the fact that your plan to use EF works just fine indeed. I'm using all EF lenses on my R5, and likewise did with the R. I bought one RF so far, the 24-240mm to give me an FF option that would equal the range and flexibility of the EF-S 18-135mm. It's rarely on the camera, so it's mostly all EF glass.

I have an R6 with a EF 2x Mk3, EF70-200 f/2.8 and EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6 (all Canon), and both lenses work fine on the TC with the RF-EF converter, in fact (and probably predictably) better than on my old EF based body.

I am yet to try the bottom of a glass coke bottle though...

Metabones makes an adapter for that...

So I tried stacking an EF 2X III and an EF 1.4X III with an EF 12 II extension tube between them. The front of the 1.4 was extremely tight going into the rear of the extension tube, I had to force it. When I disconnected, a plastic piece came out. Now they go together and work just fine and I'm wondering if this little piece of plastic with a too small hole in the middle is even necessary.
