Both photos were shot with the same settings and the same light condition: Image hosted by forum (1078789) © SYS [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. SYS Cream of the Crop More info | Dec 19, 2020 18:21 | #22 CyberDyneSystems wrote in post #19169131 I'm amazed. the detail in these is magnificent! Did the LFC allow you to get closer for these? How'd you get the owl to sit still? ![]() One of the things I try to avoid when shooting wildlife is "invading" on their privacy. I like to give them a respectable space, and this is where the LSC helps (coupled with the R5's crop-ability with 45mp), so yes, I was able to shoot from a distance further back than before. Owls tend to be asleep most of the time, so I could have brought down the ISO with a much slower SS, but I left it at a higher ISO so I can see in post edit what I can get away with.

Dec 22, 2020 21:11 | #23 What advantage does this provide over a mark iii converter used with an extension tube? Can this be used with one of the new RF lenses that can’t use TC’s?

Can this be used with one of the new RF lenses that can’t use TC’s? The EF LSC works with EF lenses and not with RF lenses. From my limited experience using this, there are two main advantages: 1) magnification of the subject while increasing the working distance from the front of the lens to the subject; and 2) no IQ degradation. Then, with the dual pixel AF cameras like 5D IV and R5, you retain all AF functionalities, including the R5's Eye-AF + tracking. The EF LSC was once advertised by Canon to work specifically with the 50mm Macro lens, but it turns out it can work with all EF lenses, including zooms, such as my Sigma 150-600C. So, it's really useful for real macro work, which I enjoy from time to time, but also as a "magnifier" to my zoom lenses. For my bird photography, for example, I don't have to crop my images in post as much. This photo was a "magnified" shot from increased distance with very little crop in post. The IQ is identical with those taken without the EF LSC:

With LSC, hardly cropped, and through the window... Image hosted by forum (1080290) © SYS [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff.
