Using the trial of Exposure X6 (and x5) the color balance is way off on import of RAW files. Kind of faded?, blue/grayish? I don't understand, it's not just a white balance/temperature issue, changing the slider never gets it to look "normal". I can change cyan hue to get blues to look ok. But no matter what I do grass/greens are too gray or blueish. A bit hard to see in the attached photo, I think it looks worse in software. Bottom is Exposure, top is Corel. Only set to same color temp.

The exact same files in Lightroom or Corel Aftershot looks fine. I send a support request but it was not helpful, just suggesting creating camera profiles with calibrated colors etc. Way too much work for what should be simple raw import.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? Is there a place to find premade camera profiles (for panasonic gx7)?

I found some sample raw images on the web for the GX7:

https://mirrorlesscomparison.com …-lumix-gx7-sample-photos/ (external link)

and opened them in Exposure 5 on my Mac. The color is off - skin tones become orange and blues get pushed into the cyan realm - it almost looks like a two-strip film image.

I copied the DCP camera profile for Adobe Standard into Exposure and applied it and the colors are much better.

You can download the Adobe DNG converter (it is free) and it should install all of the Adobe camera profiles - then find the one for the GX7 and import it into Exposure and you can then apply it to your images.

Weird. Alien Skin's Standard profile is terrible.

Good luck,

Kirk

Here is a Dropbox link to the Adobe Standard DCP profile, if you don't want to go through the trouble of installing stuff and finding it.

Amazing, thank you sir! I'll give that a try later. Certainly looks much better. Your top image looks similar to the issue I have. There is a range; some photos look perfectly fine in Exposure, others are horrible.

I was very disappointed as a really like Exposure for everything else, better than corel aftershot I'm using now. If this works it will be a viable program again and I'll consider switching over.
(for one thing Corel aftershot doesn't open DNG files, which I have a few thousand of. As I found out after buying it. Like wtf!?)

Incidentally - here is the same raw image processed in Raw Photo Processor with a "two strip" film profile selected for the color rendering. Looks pretty similar. I wonder if there is some strange baked-in film look that gets applied mistakenly to the GX7 images.

You have to remember that despite what Adobe might claim for the DNG format, it is not a consistent standard. Outside of the Adobe world a lot of software can only open DNG files if they are native to the camera. DNG files converted from other RAW file formats are a different beast, and are often not supported. So if you took Adobe at their word, and converted all your CR2 or NEF files to DNG, without keeping the originals, you could easily find yourself quite limited in the number of software options you now have available to you. Converted DNG support is getting better, but it's nowhere close to being a non issue.

Here is the original raw file processed in DXO PhotoLab 4 using only the DXO Standard default. As you can see it is similar in some respects to Adobe Standard, although I think DXO colors are less saturated . I trialed Exposure X6 and while I think it has a lot of potential I also wasn't happy with the colors, among other things.
