You can probably find a really nice 7D mark II for less than half the new price and it is still capable of taking excellent photos, it is not the best APS-C camera anymore but it is still pretty good.

Dec 17, 2020 21:15 | #4 5DM4 is a great all around camera. I have not owned a 7D2, so I cannot speak to that. If it weren't my need to have a truly silent shutter, I'd probably still be using the M4 for all my work.

Dec 18, 2020 17:06 | #6 They are both decent cameras for the money depending, but only used really. The 5D mk IV would be worth it if you can get it new or used for cheap, but it is about the same price new that you can get the R6 which is a better camera. Used it is still a good body but you would have to make the call if you want to get one used or save up a bit more and get the R6. I upgraded recently from the 7D mk II to the R6 and as good as the R6 is, the fact that you can get the 7D mk II for $600-700 used all day long makes it hard to really say. The 7D mk II is still a very reliable camera and capable of doing wildlife/sprots, it is a bit old but doesn't show its age like the original 7D. The price of them used is rather good if you are on a budget, but if you are looking at the 5D mk IV price range, no question get the R6. It is better in most ways. What is your use case, what are you shooting? "I work from awkwardness. By that I mean I don't arrange things. Dec 20, 2020 13:39 | #10 Hey all, I really like full frame, so I was leaning towards 5D MKIV... but after much thinking, I think I will go mirrorless (I'm gonna miss that loud mirror slap 6D, EF16-35 F4L IS, EF35 f2, EF50 f1.4, EF50 f1.8

(5 edits in all) | Dec 20, 2020 19:25 | #11 The 5D4 has been Canon's do it all pretty darn good camera, right there with the 1D4, two of the best all around swiss army knife bodies of the past. I don't see myself selling my 5D4 ever, but who knows. The R6 is a good alternative, other than the almost 25% reduction in resolution in both dimensions. I wish the R6 had the R/5D4 resolution. CyberDyneSystems Admin (type T-2000) ![]() More info | Dec 27, 2020 22:20 | #13 I feel the extra 10MP in the 5D4 sensor far outweighs the minuscule noise advantage of the 1DXIII/R6 20 mp sensor. Just my point of view. GEAR LIST

Dec 31, 2020 00:56 | #14 For me personally I can say that I dont mind the 20mp resolution. I have used a 5D mk IV a decent amount and the R6 so far has been a sharper camera for me. It has a decent amount more dynamic range and less noise at higher ISO that I have noticed personally, but I think that is more the newer sensor tech than anything, I said the same thing going from the 7D to the 7D mk II. I sort of wish it had a 24-30mp sensor instead of 20, but I am also very happy with image quality and anymore with what I am doing, the smaller file sizes are also very handy as I tend to shoot 1000-2000 images a weekend when I am actively shooting and saving 25% off the image sizes is nice just for workflow afterwards. I dont know if I will miss that resolution since most of my use is for 1500px jpgs that are destoryed from compression on social media/mobile. I am also a bit of a weird case in that I prefer telephoto lenses, so I really dont crop much other than to get aspect ratios, I more shoot with as close to correct sizing as I can. Jan 03, 2021 15:45 | #15 If the question was more related to wildlife and landscapes, would you lean to the 5DIV more than the R6? I have the 7DII and it will likely continue to be my dedicated sports body but I will probably be doing less sports after track season this spring.
