I'm planning a 6 day trip to the Southwest from Dec 27 - Jan 2. It's kind of a last minute trip, so I just started the planning phase.
Plan is to arrive (and depart from Las Vegas).
Drive from Vegas to Bryce NP and spend 2 days there.
Bryce to Arches NP and 2 days there,
Arches to GC NP and 2 days there before returning to Las Vegas and flying back home.

Any advice on recommended photo spots at these locations and the time of day to best take advantage of lighting.
Would you change the amount of time at one NP vs. the other.
Although Monuments Park is closed, can you get good photos on the road that passes through there on the way to GC from Arches (I believe Rt. 163 is still open to traffic)
(and what is the best time to take the photos in consideration of the lighting - I'm only going to be driving through, so I have to time my trip through there).

Thanks for any advice.
Note: I'm skipping Zion NP because I've already been there and the shuttle passes are sold out.

I assume you're going to the south rim of GCNP. Correct? The north rim is always closed during the winter due to snow/ice on the roads. Parking the at the south rim can be tough to find. With the pandemic that may not be a problem.
The farther *west* you go on the south rim the less people there will be. There are shuttle buses that run continuously on the south rim. With the pandemic, you may want to avoid them.
Right now the east entrance to the south rim is closed and you have to enter from the south (through the town of Tusayan). Check the GCNP website for latest conditions. I think it was last year, the south rim snowed-in and people were stuck inside the NP.

Also check which Indian reservations you're going to drive through. Due to the pandemic which has hit the reservations hard, some of the reservations are closed on the weekends - you can't enter and will be turned away at their border. Based on your itinerary you'll be driving through the Navajo reservation.

I'd also suggest getting a 4WD rental vehicle. You'll be driving through a remote part of the country during winter. The south rim of GCNP is at 7000'.

This site, https://www.visitutah.com …rks-outdoors/the-mighty-5 (external link), offers up some links to individual parks.

Another good site is https://embracesomeplace.com/mighty-5-roadtrip/ (external link). Just ignore the Zion content.

Old article but it points out some wonderful state parks that might be worth consideration.

I would want to spend more time at Bryce, some time at Dead Horse Point and the rest at Arches. I can not remember the best places or times. Bryce definitely has beautiful scenery from the parking areas starting just past the visitor center. I do not think it will be crowded either.

I'm a little late replying, just got back from Moab myself. I think afternoons in Arches is best, then you get afternoon light on the La Sal mountains. Up around the Windows section of Arches is good, and there is a little side road out to the Fiery Furnace overlook that was good. Mornings might be a little better in Canyonlands, but you can find views that are favorable for both times of day out there. The Green River Overlook would be best in the morning, backlit in the afternoon.
