Short Eared Owls aren't exactly plentiful up here, but when you do find them, they're so much fun to watch. There's an area of about 3000 acres of reclaimed land, below sea level and protected by dykes, that is farmed, and the Short Eared Owls, Northern Harriers and Red Tailed Hawk congregate to catch mice and voles. The Shorties generally emerge from their hiding places in late afternoon, and I drove the 2.5 hours down from my home to see what I could see. It was well worth the drive!
