I have seen it mentioned that this forum has a 20 year anniversary coming up soon. . But then I saw this, which makes me think that the anniversary must have already happened.

If Pekka started a thread on POTN over 20 years ago, then the forum has been around for more than 20 years already, right?

But then, when I click on the thread to see the actual date that it was first posted, I see this:

Which, obviously, was less than 20 years ago.

What's up with the contradictory date / timeframe? . When something is off, I like to find out precisely why.

What little line in the code was written in such a way that it caused this error? . Can it be easily fixed? . Can we see a screenshot of the current code, and then a screenshot of the new code that corrects the issue? . Is it even the code at all, or is it something else that is causing this error?

OR .....

Was there a test version (called "beta" by some) that Pekka was running before the forum officially went online and was opened to the public? . And if that is the case, is it possible that the "thread started" date was carried over from that test version?

Or it something else entirely that causes this error ..... something I am not even thinking of?

I would love to know all about this issue!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

It is in the Canon G series sub-forum index:

Here is a direct link to it:

It isn't an old, inactive thread. . It was just replied to yesterday, so it appears at the top of the G series sub-forum index, and also in the "New Posts" index.

Because it was the most recently replied to thread in the G series sub-forum, it also appears right on the main POTN home page - the complete forum index. . If you are one of those people who turns certain sub-forums "off", then you may have trouble seeing it. . I leave ALL sub-forums on, all the time, because I don't ever want to miss anything that goes on here at POTN.

And Pekka just revived that thread by mentioning our upcoming 20th anniversary in his Happy New Year 2021 thread;

It is simply a bug in the code that calculates the "x years ago" text from a timestamp. Looks like it calculates amount of years with a steady 30 day month. I'll find a better function in the future.

If I want to search for any thread older than the 2 months I found above, how do I go about doing that?

I do not have a subject in mind, I just want to look for older material....

Every sub-forum index has a page number near the top right corner of the window. . Just click on the higher page numbers to go way way back. Or you can simply enter a page number in the address bar to get there directly/faster. . I spend tons of time in the long-ago archives of POTN ..... you may get hooked just like I did!

I never thought of looking at sub-forums (DUH!) Thank you!

Is there a way to include more than one forum at a time??

Interesting... Looking at your reply to me I do not see the screen shots that I now see when I quote your reply.

Jake, do you know why this happened?

Ha! . That's kind of funny. No wonder you've been having trouble seeing or finding various things.

Going to the sub-forum you're interested in, and seeing what's there, is, like, the main way of using POTN. . If this isn't what you've been doing, then how have you been doing it?

I don't believe so. . Such a thing seems very counter-intuitive to me.

So now I understand why you couldn't see anything that was more than 2 months old.

I think that exploring the sub-forums will be a fun epiphany for you! . You can just go to the sub-forums that you are most interested in, and look back through years and years of threads.

For starters, I highly recommend perusing the Photography Talk by Genre section .....

https://photography-on-the.net …index.php#PhotographyTalk

..... and selecting the General Photography Talk sub-forum:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13

Thank you Tom!

How do you (and other people that know how to do this!) give a link that starts below the top of the page?

ie: "Photography Talk By Genre"???

If I try the same page it goes to the TOP of that page. I have seen other links that take you to the start of an article, or even the middle of an article that is down a ways from the top of the page.....

I hope you understand what I am trying to ask about here....
