Thank you Tom!

How do you (and other people that know how to do this!) give a link that starts below the top of the page?

.
I don't know. . It's certainly not intentional, and something that I was not aware that I was doing. . Maybe it has to do with the way AMASS software is written. . I notice that Wikipedia links do the same thing, at times.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Hi Charles,

I'm not sure I understand what exactly you are hinting at. I use Chrome as my browser on a windows machine and I can right click on a hyperlink handle to get the following menu.

Then you can copy the link address and paste it in your message (or email/text etc.). When someone reading your message clicks on the link, it should automatically take them to where you wanted them to go. Hope that helps. If not, maybe you can clarify your query a bit. Sorry, it takes me a while understand things :-)

A link to a subtopic within a Wikipedia article will go to that subtopic.

Hi Rhody,

I am also on Windows 10 64bit and I use Chrome as well. I have no idea what a hyperlink is...... I just Googled "What is a hyperlink" which gave me:

a link from a hypertext file or document to another location or file, typically activated by clicking on a highlighted word or image on the screen.

Now I do not know what a hypertext is!!!!

I think you have the correct idea of what I am looking for, how to link a page to start somewhere in the middle of a page where a new interest in the page starts.

I also do not know what you were trying to show me in the screen shot I have below.

Thank you

Lol. A hyperlink is what you click to go to another location (or page). Many enterprises depend on ppl (knowingly or inadvertently) clicking on hyperlinks.

When you click the link with the left button on your mouse ( or the left part of your touchpad on a laptop) you are redirected to the new location. But if you click with the right button you get the dropdown menu that was in my screenshot. You can then copy the link from there and paste it wherever you want.

Or you could just hover your mouse over the link to see the web address for the link in the bottom left corner of your browser.

Nothing really. Its just web jargon. The original web pages (and even the simple ones now) were written in HTML which stands for hyper text markup language. And the protocol to transfer html pages is called HTTP which stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. The links you click to initiate the transfer were therefore termed hyper links Just a fancy term.

Is there a difference then between a hyperlink and hypertext? I am "guessing" they are really the same....

Do you know how people can set up a link or hyperlink to show it starting in the middle of a page where a new interest starts?

Thank you very much Rhody!!

Sorry for the long-winded response.

Hypertext is text that contains hyperlinks to connect to other media. Suppose you are reading a book and you come across a word that you do not understand and you have to open another book (a dictionary) to find the meaning. In this case you had to physically make a connection between two documents because both those documents are written in “plain” text. But suppose you are reading the book on your computer and the e-publisher conveniently compiled the book in Hyper text using HTML and added Hyperlinks to all the words they considered difficult, then clicking on that word takes you directly to another page that provides an explanation, maybe an image or a video or another hypertext document with more hyperlinks. (That is why its called the web, lol) The highlighted text you clicked on is a hyperlink.

Under the hood, every post we create on this forum is a hypertext document with its own hyperlink that you can copy and paste into another post. Just click on the post number on the right top corner of the post to get its URL (Uniform Resource Locator - fancy term for web address). Within the post you can also select a text and create a hyperlink, like this or “markup” the text with a font, color, size, or other attributes. All images you add are hyperlinks to the location where they are stored on the servers.

So to go to the middle of a page just copy the URL for that post and paste it in your post. I don’t know how to create a URL pointing to the middle of a post. Hope that helps.

Or, if the publisher didn't compile it in hypertext, you can highlight a word with your mouse, then right click, and a menu pops up, which gives you the option of looking that word up on Google, which will bring up the definition and the correct spelling. . Of course, this option may not work with some computer's operating systems, or with some browsers.

That's a good point. But keep in mind that almost everything that you see in your browser is hypertext, because that is what the browser is supposed to do - take hypertext and translate it into a format that you see on your page. So, if a link is provided for the content you are interested in, you can click on it but if a link is not provided then you can do what Tom suggested. If you curious to see what an hypertext document looks like, just click on the right mouse button anywhere on a page and then click on "View page source" or "Inspect".
