This was taken in early August in eastern Kansas. I suspected that it was a Grasshopper Sparrow when I took it, but the black stripe on the throat seems wrong for that. Any help is appreciated.

The nearest I see is a Le Conte's sparrow.

I considered that, but the bill seems too large. Le Conte's is a good match on several points, though. Thanks.

Never having seen one, I can't be 100% sure, but it has some of the characteristics of a Dickcissel.

Thank you. I can see why you would make that call, especially with the yellow spot on the side of the throat (which is not visible in all of the shots I took), but I think not. We have Dickcissels up to our elbows all summer, so I am familiar with them. Although you can't see it in the first picture, here is another taken at the same time where you can see a white median stripe on the bird's head, whereas the Dickcissel's crown is solid gray. This bird also lacks the bright eyeline of a Dickcissel. I have uploaded a Dikcissel pic for comparison

Henslow’s Sparrow maybe? I’ve never seen either Henslow’s or Grasshopper in the field, So I’m not sure.

I also considered Henslow's, but they have a distinct black eyeline. This is a tough one. I'm leaning toward my initial Grasshopper Sparrow ID. It is hard to tell with the grasshopper in its bill, but some shots look as though it might have the Grasshopper Sparrow bill color (dark on top, pink below). Thanks for your input. This won't be the first bird I have been unsure about!

Some birds are like that. I guess you don't have a shot showing the breast. That would make it a lot easier.
