In 1962, the British government put the London Bridge up for sale because it could no longer handle the traffic. The relatively new town of Lake Havasu City, Arizona bought it for $2,460,000, and shipped it to the desert one piece at a time, putting it back together next to the lake then dredged a channel through it.

Interesting shots and background Lonnie. I was wondering when you were over in London as I was thinking initially of Tower Bridge when I saw your thread title. In fact was there not a rumour that when the bridge was being bought, the buyers thought that they were buying Tower Bridge?

Now that you mention it, I do remember hearing that somewhere. I don't know if it's true, though.

Nice shots, Lonnie! The last one is my favorite. I love the color of the water.

Interesting story and thanks for sharing. Very nice shots. I really like the last one.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Wonderful shots Lonnie, I'm with Becca the last one is great. That must have been on monumental undertaking to take that bridge down and rebuild it.

Anyone want to buy the hole from my doughnut? ;)

Nice perspective you have there - and the colour of the water is great. I'm not sure the Thames was ever that colour.

I'll start the bidding at two pesos and an old token from a Virginia City, Nevada brothel.

Nice shots of a very interesting story. At first the idea of buying a bridge seems silly and close to the old joke of "I will sell you a bridge" but it has really helped the city and draws a lot of tourism to the "river"... a favorite spot for Southern Californians.
